  • My vet suggested Plaque Off : http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=plaque+off&!!!!!googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=8877465373&hvpos=1t3&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=150380666986290037&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&ref=pd_sl_eoj2or79w_e

You may need to brush the teeth a little too but the plaque visibly less in a really short time. Maybe worth a go if it is not causing health problems now?
  • I had this conversation with my vet last week when I took my cat for his annual booster, apparently his gums are inflamed and his teeth will need cleaning. They have quoted me a flat fee of £150, this is including the anesthetic! £418 is a ridiculous amount!

blimey, compare that to a dental hygiene visit cost for human teeth

ok, I can see there might be anaesthetic involved as well but even so it sounds a lot

Wowzers thats a lot of money

Our eldest boy (4 yrs) has just been for his booster today and the vet recommended he now has his fractured canine out (he fractured and broke the tip off when he was young) as its started going black so we will book him in for this.

On the plus side she said his other teeth and his gums looked like they belonged to a six month old kitten they were in such fantastic condition :D

Both my boys are fed on RAW food which is why they have fantastic teeth (fantastic everything thanks to the food)

Try offering the old guy 1-2 raw chicken wings a week and see how that helps with the plaque build up .. I think you will be pleasantly surprised .. sadly long term damage eating commercial cat food has happened so he will need the operation :(

I second the raw chicken supplements.

My cat is a hunter and can often be heard crunching up the bones of small animals and birds. The vet says his teeth are amazing and puts it down to this.

  • If your cat is prone to a plaque build up it is possible to pick it off gently using your fingernail, if your cat will let you

That does seem quite expensive, my cat had to have a minor op a few months ago that resulted in a large amount of her teeth being removed - this was a lengthy process, plus she had a biopsy on a small lump while she was under and blood tests done and the price for the whole lot was about £250. Not cheap but nowhere near what you've been quoted. I would suggest she tries getting some other quotes.
