Car insurance-gap of 1month in NCD

Hi,

Need some advice:

My previous car insurance expired in july but i didnt renew my insurance straight away ,instead I renewed it after a month i.e in september.Although I was using my husband's car mainly in that month as he was commuting via train but on odd occasions I did use my car 'without' insurance. Now as I changed the insurance company for renewal, they are asking for NCD for the 1month gap otherwise I have to pay an extra 650pounds.
I'm really worried now...what should I do now?

Any suggestions/advice will be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  • Which insurer/ broker is it?

Most accept NCD up to two years old, you just need to explain you held no insurance for the gap period.

Its with AVIVA.I did tell them that I had no insurance but they are asking WHY??
  • Is it Aviva direct or via a broker?

So tell them the reason why you were without insurance for a month. The insurer's concern is the fact you have had insurance, made a claim or more and now are trying to use an older NCD to bypass those incidents.

    its Aviva direct...

can i say that i was abroad n didn't renew it,which i was but not on exact those dates.......i know its not true but ....
  • Easier just to say that you just used your husbands car for a month whilst he switched to commuting by train and so didnt need to vehicles.... basically what you originally posted (probably wouldnt mention the driving without insurance)
