Plastic compost bin, no sunny spot.

We have a big compost but its a long way from the kitchen, (and this gets delayed to being less frequent than ideal) and I quite fancy having a Dalek style one a quick hop and skip from the back door, but the only suitable position for the garden layout gets no sun.
Is this an absolUte nono, and is going to smell so bad it's not worth the saving effort of placing one close to hthe house

I have 2 of them - both in almost full shade and they work fine ...just have to make sure you put in a good mix of stuff ....just kitchen scraps alone will turn into a slimy, smelly mess.0

It shouldn't smell and I've got compost from a shaded dalek - albeit a little more slowly than in a full sun version.0

Same as previous two posts. Two 'daleks' in a shaded spot behind our garage, good mix of brown and green waste and we've had some beautiful compost out of it this year!0

I reckon insulation is more important than sun. So in an ideal world I would insulate the inside of my daleks with cardboard and I know they would be better than they are...... and add air holes as well, they don't have to be big.
As it is, I can't be bothered to add cardboard insulation to the daleks, so they have to work without, plus the fact it would cut down on the space in them, although not much once the cardboard got wet and moulded to the sides tbh.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
