Jobcentre query

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask... but please can anyone advise me if, when the Jobcentreplus adviser gives you a job to apply for, you have to apply for it the very same day? The Benefit Centre has stopped my JSA because they say I didn't apply for a job the adviser told me to apply for - the deadline date was the same date my adviser gave me the job to apply for. (I tried to apply for this job the following day but was not able to because of this). Neither I nor the adviser had noticed this deadline date - he said this at our next meeting 2 weeks afterwards, he made a note on his copy of the job details, and I thought that would be that, but I have now had my JSA stopped. I would have applied for this job if I could. I have appealed against their decision, but wanted to know if I am at fault here. (I'm new to JSA and to MSE - please be gentle!) Many thanks.

so it was 2 weeks later at your next signing that you realised the application closure date?
what possible reason do you have for not applying for the job opportunity immediately?0 -

I read it that the OP tried to apply for the job the day after his advisor had given it to him and couldn't because the deadline had passed - not that it took him 2 weeks to apply.(I tried to apply for this job the following day but was not able to because of this).
Maybe his sign-on time was quite late in the day so he might not have had time to get his application in that day.
It was at his next sign-on day that he and his advisor discussed the fact that the deadline expired on the day his advisor had told him to apply.

I would have thought that in the circumstances your payment wouldn't have been stopped but someone will be along soon with (hopefully) the definitive answer.0 -
jedders, now many other applications did you make that week?"Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Dalai Lama0

No, it was the following morning from being given the job details, when I tried to apply for the job, that I realised the application closure date. Thanks for your response.0 -
My sign-on time was in the afternoon and I didn't get home until after 5.30pm. I will definitely be looking at the deadline dates from now! A jobsworth has found a reason to stop your JSA.
You need to appeal so someone with some commonsense looks at your case.0 -

I agree with John539 - but I'm looking at it from a common sense viewpoint. It's sounds pretty unfair that they've stopped your benefits, especially as you say your advisor made a note that the job expired on the day he gave it to you.
Combined with your late sign-on time hopefully you'll be able to convince them that you did all you could.
Have you had a letter to tell you that your JSA has stopped?
Have they told you how long you've been sanctioned for?
Is there any information (if you have had a letter) about how to appeal against a sanction?0 -
The letter the JSA Benefit centre wrote to me is really unclear. In one sentence, they say their decision applies for 2 weeks (until the end of this month), but in the next sentence they say "we cannot pay you an allowance from [the end of this month] and it doesn't say until when. Their letter says I should phone or write to them to appeal against their decision - I have written but I hope, like you mention, that I can convince them I did all that I could to apply for this job. Thanks again for your reply.Jedders

I think you need to check what your sanction is for as re- refusal of employment ( applying for or accepting a suitable job) carries a much longer sanction so there has to be something else going on! 2 week sanctions are usually for actively seeking( but you would of been notified by your advisor if that what the case). You don't need to appeal ask for a reconsideration( form dr7) and if unsuccessful then appeal0
