Son decided not to go back to school end of August, despite getting college place. Told CB and TC, claims ended.
Not being able to find a job, son goes back to college 3rd October. Call child benefit, they say they'll reinstate claim and also inform TC, so don't worry about calling them.
Oct 8th, call TC just to make sure of things. Told all is fine, payment usually made within 2 weeks.
Oct 16th, husband calls TC to follow up as no money yet and he was getting nervous. Told all is fine, payment within 3 weeks of original re-claim.
Today- still no money. Ring TC to be told we should have made a new claim. Forms will only be sent out 2nd class and claim can take up to 12 weeks.
How can they get it this wrong???
Oh and for anyone planning to troll, I care for my disabled husband full time so there is no way for either of us to up our income in the meantime and my son has applied for every part time job going.

TC could have easily taken the claim over the phone as they have the relevant information on file.
i would ring them up, explain that you were told xyz from CB, you had infact called twice previously that the claim was being processed, and now your told different, and to take the claim over the phone to fast track the process and go back to the date of ill information.0 -
They say they don't have the details any longer because the claim was closed. Writing a complaint letter now

Thank goodness for small mercies- called child benefit in a panic in case I also needed to make a new claim there too and found they have already processed everything and are making a payment tomorrow. So we have a bit of a cushion to tide us over while TC sort themselves out.
Incidentally, we were told today that the person my husband spoke to on the 16th had spoken to her supervisor about the issue and made a note that we should have been making a new claim. No one bothered to let us know this, even though they knew we had incorrect information.0
