Stuck with a faulty TV

Hi there
Sorry if this is the wrong section but I am not a regular forum user - forgive me.
I have recently moved to London and spotted an old-style (big) TV listed online as a freebie, in full working order. It was left here while I was out (my flatmate did not think to check it) and does not work. Lesson learned never to use Gumtree.
I have phoned the council and they say it'll cost me £32.50 to have it collected - the TV was free and I've spent £1500 on my rent / deposit this month, I simply cannot afford this.
Please can anyone tell me what I can do, I don't have a car here and I just can't face something else going wrong. I feel like such an idiot.
Any suggestions welcome

You are trying it with a working set-top digi-box connected to a decent aerial are you ?0

It doesn't even turn on, the power audibly pops through it, it is dangerous to plug in.0

Just leave it in your front garden. If you live anywhere like I do, it will soon disappear!0

best to stick it outside and put a for sale £30 label on it....guaranteed to disappear :j0

A few months ago a very large tv set appeared outside my neighbours house on the pavement. In the middle of the night it would disappear , but the next night it would reappear in roughly the same spot. This happened on at least 3 occaisions until one night it never came back!
Unfortunately a smaller tv recently appeared on the same spot about 3 days ago , but has remained rooted to the spot.
