Have to say that with my 1080p TV, iPad 3 and 2nd gen AppleTV the picture quality is fine - not perfect but then the 2nd gen AppleTV was at most 720p so never will be as goodSummer01 - that doesn't really help except that it informs us that your AppleTV can do 1080p. I've no idea what your screen is capable of, but as I said in my post, the bottleneck will be your wireless network, get yourself a strong signal, on an all 'N' network, for the best conditions.
Apologies, wrote my last post in a rush. I have the iPad 2, the new Apple TV if this helps. The broadband is o2. I'll have to look up the exact make/model of the TV. Apple did comment that when screening from BBC iPlayer that before you press play there is a button below it where you can change the display and I should ensure this is set to HD so I guess I should try this next time also. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Yep, defo make sure that it's set to HD, as long as your BB speed, and WiFi speed can cope. O2 don't make routers, they give you one from another brand. If it's new enough it'll be N, but first thing to do is make sure you're watching an HD stream in the first place...0

I've had it several years now so I'm not sure that it's an N. Is it easy enough to establish this yourself? I'll try it again making sure the HD stream is on - thank you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

On the bottom of the router what's the make and model?
I do this with an iPad 2 running iOS 5 (I like my google maps too much to downgrade to 6). To an 2nd generation apple tv (upgraded to iOS 6) my router is a G one so old but my apple tv is pluged into it via cable, so that will be quicker.
I notice a diffrence in quality when I use mirroring (it's worse) rather than just push content to the Apple TV.
PS have you got the apple remote app?0 -
Thanks for the advise. I don't have the apple remote app. I'll look into this. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've noticed the picture isn't that great when I use mirroring on the Apple TV, could anyone please recommend a cable which I can use to plug from my Apple TV to my iPad and MBP please (I'm hoping this will improve the quality). For example at the moment when I'm watching ITV/BBC/E4/films through the iPad it skips so you miss the odd word and the picture jumps. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. No such thing. The picture will be dependant on your WiFi signal. Either between the Router and the aTV or between the iPad or MBP and the Router. The aTV has a LAN port. If you connected this to your router, that will make half of the journey wired and may help.
Otherwise, you're looking at connecting the iPad or MBP to your TV, not your AppleTV.0 -
Thanks almillar, is it recommended to do this? I just find that watching BBC Player and ITV player etc it jumps through some of the clips so you miss bits of conversation etc. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Recommended? Going by your description, your WiFi signal isn't strong enough, so without spending any money (or maybe just a little bit on a long LAN cable) try this first. I'm assuming you've already tried playing around with any aerials you have on your router.0
