OS Daily Monday 22nd October

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 22nd October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning everyone ,and what a nasty damp foggy morning it is as well.School run this morning with the grandsons then back home into the warm I think for me.NSD today as I have enough to keep me going for a few more days and nothing is urgently needed.I have some 'shoeboxes' to cover this morning as I do them every year for the blythswood charity. My sis-in-law dropped some stuff at my house yesterday which also has to go to the charity centre. Its starting to mount up in the sitting room so I may well have a run over there this afternoon with it all before I get snowed under.people are so kind and its great to know that every bit goes to people who have nothing virtually at all. Makes you realise how lucky you are,and we all have far too much stuff really I had a sort out of some bed linen yesterday that I rarely use so that can go along with a couple of coats that may do some poor soul a turn.I am doing two 'lady' shoeboxes and a couple of childrens ones .simple things like toothbrushes and soap can make a lot of differance to some people.I collect bits and bobs from BOGOFFs in Wilkinsons so it really doesn't cost a great deal but on Christmas morning when a child opens their 'box' and actually owns something for themselves even if its only some pencils,a a colouring book and small gifts that aren't that dear to buy I hope they will be happy on at least one day this year. We all have a moan at how tough things are at the moment and its true we are going through difficult times but we are fortunate that we don't have the lack of almost everything that some folk have in the world.
Anyway time to get a wriggle on
have a good day everyone and keep wrapped up and warm if possible
    Cheers JackieO xxx

Morning all - I can hear from the cars on the road outside that it's wet, although it's too dark to see anything yet. Had a reasonably productive if very dull weekend; didn't make it to the charity shop with books, but did do the final October shop, and shredded half of 10 years' worth of paperwork before I blew up the shredder late last night.

I'm a bit of a grump this morning - working 3 half-days this week as well as a full day + evening conference on Wednesday, and I'm just not going to get the work done. I'm still finding stuff that nobody covered since August, every day there's a new crisis somewhere that the boss says yes to and delegates to us, so I'm feeling rather stressed by it all. Officially we're starting a new regime of saying No today to other teams' work, but I'll believe it when I see it, and there's still a backlog to be sorted. I'll let the boss prioritise the team's workload; that's what they pay her the big bucks for, and she agreed to let the other team member (contractor) go part-time so he can attend college, so we've lost half a resource there. I'm still teaching myself advanced stuff in Excel to try and extract meaningful data from our crappy database. My intern hasn't been seen since Tuesday and he's now officially finished with our team instead of staying for a further 6 weeks, so goodness knows what's going on. We have the equivalent of 2 fulltime people (boss, half-me, half-contractor) doing the work of about 6 people including stuff from overseas offices. Meeting HR this morning for a general catch-up since my surgery, and hopefully I'm moving to 4 x 6 hours stints in total next week for a couple of weeks before increasing my hours again. I'm afraid today is one of those days where I wake up and think 'Today has nothing nice to offer.' My neck's not been good since massive decluttering last Wednesday with my sister. At least I get paid on Thursday!

Working this morning, then up into town for a thyroid bloodtest. Dinner may well be egg and chips at this rate. Spent ages being inventive with gammon yesterday for DH and Mum, and I don't even like gammon. Anyway, enough of my moaning - I can only do what I can do in the 15 hours I'm working this week and I'm strictly not allowed to work any more than that so it can be somebody else's problem.

Have a good day everyone :)

    Morning All
Been a little busy since we got here, took some shots of the Pyrenees again as we cam through, cannot make my mind up if they have had early snow on the tops, or it is last years not melted :o. Cannot remember it being as snowy as this early. Intended posting them on FB but they still in the camera.
We were busy organising a FunDay here yesterday, however, English weather syndrome hit and we had a rainy couple of days, so had to cancel:o Now going to try to re-arrange for next Sunday as they may be more people out, as half term hits, as the usual dry 22-24C is forecast to be back from today, typical.
I have been reading so many ((hugs)) flowing to you all. Cat I really hope your DH is OK. Molly glad you hear you are feeling brighter. LW hope your new visitor chased the BD out the door. I am one of those lucky people who is a permanent glass half full type, and getting down is a very short affair, so can sympathise, but probably cannot understand totally.
One sad bit of news is one of our neighbours son back home lost his fight with the big C aged 33. Understandably they are devastated, he leaves a partner and a 3yo :(
Btw no idea while up this early but woke up not tired, so sneaked downstairs for a browse.
Oh yes, OS, been eating at home, got a Lid! Chicken, which did us 2 days, then I SC'd the carcass, skin, etc., not for soup but for Skye, who btw has coped beautifully with the travelling and the change. She has also won the hearts of all our neighbours here, with many offers of baby sitting ;). Still too warm on sunny days for walks in the middle of the day, so doing early and late ones, and encouraging her to stay indoors under the fans when the sun is at its highest. Today I need to get some washing out, also visit the bank and the Administrator with my President head on. I prepared salad contents early yesterday before we knew we had to cancel, so that is the basis of our meals yesterday and today, and maybe even tomorrow, as not going to waste either the food or the preparation. Bought a plastic knife, and shredded the lettuce with that so it will stay OK.
Enough waffling, take care all. DG

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dark, dreich, foggy and damp here this morning. DH up and off to work stupid early.

Have just been outside to put the washing on the line and changed my mind, it's so damp I really don't think washing will dry outside, so haven't bothered to put it out, airer inside will have to do.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, tasted lovely - did all the usual extras, and managed to serve everything and hide some meat to put in the fridge with the other LO's for another meal - that's going to be tomorrow night's dinner. I also managed to get an apple crumble made, we had that instead of tea last night, with some lovely custard. Tonight dinner will be fish, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk and fish, jacket and veg for me.

I'm expecting work to be a manic Monday so that should hopefully make the day go quickly. Now now to get a move on as still taking DS2 to school with his broken toe, friend still bringing him home for me, and he will cycle Thurs and Fri this week then they are on half term and he should then be fully fit to start back cycling and taking part in pe/games/dance etc.

Friends came over last night and invited us to theirs for dinner on Dec 1st, seems a long way off, but is the first available weekend for all of us - that's a bit scary as not that organised for Xmas or DS1's birthday! Need to get this weekend out of the way and get myself sorted I think.

Have a great day everyone x

Well Iv had another night of no sleep:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I have a dental abscess On my lower jaw at the back. The swelling is now so bad that I can no longer open my mouth and I have not eaten since Friday morning.
The tooth that I'm having trouble with is one of the teeth that I had a filling done in a few weeks ago. Some of you may remember me saying that I was havering some work done.
Now I know what you are all going to say to me!

Silly man! Go and see then dentist and get it sorted!

Well good women, I have been. TWICE! And the dam thing just seems to be getting worse! I can not even go now and say to them take the dam tooth out! Because I can no longer open my mouth wide enough for them to do that:mad: I last went on Saturday morning to see them, They gave me some pills. That have not as yet done anything. They have not it seems even spotted it getting any worse.
I'm going back again this morning.
Someone better do something about it! Iv had enough of the gits now.:mad:
The people that live local to me, If you wont to PM me I will tell you which dentist it is.
I will listen to others next time I wont any dental work done and do what they tell me. "Don't go to that one"!

    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Rant over
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j

    Good morning all,

    Isn't it dark this morning.

Halight I really feel for you. I have just been through something similar, eventually insisted they take the blooming thing out. And you know it still aches about 4 wks later. Hope you get it sorted.

Another night stressing about this flipping interview I will be a gibbering wreck by the time it gets here. Have been listening to a relaxation tape to help me relax, not working so far.

Out with dh today. Tea tonight will be chicken curry, rice and naan bread.

Have invited my eldest db and his wife for a meal towards the end of November so we can exchange Christmas pressies, will see my younger brother in a couple of weeks and we will be with the middle one in Australia. Gosh this Christmas has taken some organising it's like a military operation.

Managed to fit a walk in yesterday evening so going to continue with the healthy eating. My weight seems to be firmly stuck at the mo, obviously hit some kind of plateau, anyway will keep going.

Last week of school for DS before half term. Think he really needs the rest so looking forward to next week.

Anyway best get on, have a good day whatever your up to x

Very foggy here visibility is only a few yards.
No plans really today apart from reorganising my larder.
DS is at college and DH is at work, DD is at her BF's, honestly she might as well give his address, she is there so often.
donnygal. that is such sad news:( 33 is no age:(

halight go to the chemist and get the strongest pain killers that you can get either co-codamol or paracodamol, they might help, and rinse your mouth with salt water as many times as you can, it might help until you get to see someone, there is nothing more painful than toothache, I hope that you get it sorted soon ((((((Hugs))))))
redruby sorry to hear about OH's wrist, try to get him to the doctors, that might give you an hour's peace ;)
If you have an itchy scalp it is probably because the scalp is dry. Rub in some warmed olive oil and wrap a towel around your head and leave for half an hour, then wash your hair as normal.
OH well my DH has just got back in from his shift so he is under my feet too :rotfl:

Morning all, very foggy here, no washing on the line today.
    Hugs for all.
It is my woofer dogs birthday , yes I know daft but we do slightly celebrate it:o:o. So his sister Betsy will come round later for her present from him (a squeaky bone) and to give him his (a teddy as he really is a big baby). A friend has made them a dog friendly birthday cake in exchange for a coffee and walnut cake from me. Gosh sounds really embarrassing now its down in writing.:o;)

Anyhow, I have a hole in my kitchen ceiling. Ds3 was in the bath and when I was in the kitchen I could hear water 'pouring' very loudly IYKWIM then a few drops of water then a hole:eek::eek:. Am in a queue on the phone for the repairs centre of our landlords. The dripping has stopped now , doubt it will be classed as an emergancy so will be put on a 12 week max ticket.

Dinner is meatballs in tomato sauce with penne pasta as have bags and bags of the stuff in the cupboard.

Nothing much really going on today, before I forget ds3 has bought a vibrating toning machine, he keeps saying he never has time to get to the gym anymore so has cancelled his membership and bought this instead, has it in his head that he can stand on it watching telly with a bit of cake in his hand and still lose weight or tone up:rotfl::rotfl:. What a wally. Never mind.

Hope you all have warm safe days :)
Paul Walker , in my dreams;)
