How much did you pay for the car and is that on the receipt? That will clearly remind the garage owner he sold at retail and committed an offence by omission when he sold you the car. Speak to the garage you are buying from, ask what they would have allowed if the car was clear compared to now and that is how much he owes you.

We paid £2500 cash for the car and is on the receipt that we paid cash.
The garage we were buying from said it would of been 2/3rds less in part exchange.

If the dealer has now said that he told you and wrote it on the receipt, surely all you have to do is find the receipt in order to prove that he's lying.

Hi, I stated in my original post that it was untrue that he had told us verbally or wrote the on the receipt.

It doesn't state on his website or auto trader listing that they are HPI checked.

The new car has been HPI checked!!!

Does that mean you have the reciept? Just because you've said "is on" rather than "was on"....
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

New car HPI checked, But did you do it?

Even if the garage offer to show you one i would do it myself also.

Personally im only spending £2000 anyway so my inspection is worth more than an HPI report.

You paid £2500 10 months ago. What are they offering in part exchange?

I think your only looking at a couple of hundred £ loss. Depends how far you want to take this and how long you can wait before trading it in.

What if they say they want the car back?

I'm going to assume they're probably offering you £1200-£1500 as a trade in value.

Revaluing the car at £500 seems very harsh.

I'd have thought 1/3 off would be reasonable making it approx £800-1200. I'd negotiate hard to reduce that loss further.

After that, its down to IF you can recover that from the original trader?
