Switching to cheaper tariffs with new supplier

I'm currently bound with eon in a fixed until April 2013 Dual Fuel account, with an £80 penalty if I leave them before 1st April. Probably a stupid question, but if I switch to another supplier with better tariffs using someone like Uswitch, does that count at leaving eon or switching from eon (is there a difference)?

Going through a comp site makes no difference, you are still leaving Eon whether you switch direct or through Uswitch. Your contract is with the new supplier, not with the comp site.
The date that matters is the date that you go on supply with the new provider, not the date you apply to switch.

    Morning NeverSayDie,

    macman is spot on here.

If you decide to move away (switch/change supplier) from E.ON before the end of the tariff date then you would be charged the cancellation fee.

This would be applied to the final bill.

Hope this clears things up a bit for you.

  • Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Helena, if EON had a cheaper tariff for me to switch to, would they a) offer it & b) without cancellation penalty fee?

Depends on the T&C's of your existing tariff, most only charge an ETC if you switch suppliers, not tariffs.

    Hiya NeverSayDie,

If you give us a ring we will offer the best deal for you, so either the cheapest a fixed or whatever suits your needs. :D

Also if you change from one E.ON tariff to another we won't charge you the cancellation fee.

  • Helena, thanks for the advice. One question though, as with the other energy providers, are eon about to raise their fuel prices (not sure if you'll be able to answer that on here)? The eon comparison site does show me a cheaper alternative to change to, but it's not fixed (as my current one is) & I fear it may be cheap today, but if the prices are raised, it wont be. Hope that makes some sense?:)

    No worries :D

E.ON have promised not to increase prices in 2012, I don't know what will happen after this.

We don't actually find out of any price changes until the day of the announcement, we're just not important enough.

We have got some fixed prices on offer, if you fancy.

    Sorry, I can't really answer :o

Cheers for the advice again. I'll check again & maybe switch to another fixed price. Not long left for 2012 to end & I expect eon wont be left behind with the price hikes, so another fixed option seems sensible.
