android phone - can't seem to move apps to SD card

I upgraded the phone to froyo and then gingerexperia after rooting it and still no success. The option to move to sd is greyed out for some so I know that they cannot be moved but there are some apps where the option is available and they are the ones which come up with the fail to move application message. I have tried many apps but none move to the sd card of my friend's phone. Not all of them are unmoveable surely?This is more likely to do with the fact that the X8 runs on either android 1.6 (Donut) or the upgraded 2.1 (Eclair), neither of which will support apps from an sd card if the phone is not rooted or a newer flash of android.0
