Positive buying/selling stories?!

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and the buying/selling game. We are currently moving up to the 2nd step on the property ladder and it's a bit daunting! We moved into a new build for our first home so this buying and selling business is very new to us. I have only read horror stories about EA/solicitors/gazumping etc so wondered if anyone had any positive stories that can reassure me that things will work out ok?!
(Should say that we accepted an offer on our house and had an offer accepted on our next house last week. Buyer is BTL and our next house was a rental so not a big chain.)
Thanks

I'm currently surrounded by boxes ... we complete on Tuesday. Our buyers have been a little slow but our solicitor had been excellent generally replying to any query the same day! I think our vendor has now moved into rented as promised.
House went on the market about a year ago so it has taken a while but we got there in the end.0 -
Also currently surrounded by boxes - we completed and moved in about 10 days ago. It was all relatively straightforward - we found first time buyers to buy our old place, and the place we were moving was empty so it was about as simple as it could be. Took about 8 weeks from offers accepted to moving in. Exchanging did get delayed by a week because of a delay in a solicitor getting hold of some documents, but other than that all went smoothly and hassle-free.
All three solicitors involved seemed to be pretty reliable and relatively quick. The EA's weren't involved at all between the offers being accepted and handing over the keys, but they seemed to be OK. Waiting for the mortgage offer from Nationwide to come through was the longest part of the process, but once we had that it all happened pretty quickly and fairly painlessly.
Things can go wrong in buying and selling - but they certainly don't always!0 -
Sold and bought in 2 seperate transactions this year.
Sold in June to FTB, went really smoothly and they were no trouble at all, only issue we had was that they wanted us out before we expected, it took 8 weeks from offer to moving.
During the above move we found our new house (lived with family in between). It took 12 weeks from offer to moving, the vendors were a lot slower. I chased my solicitor religiously every week without fail and would certainly recommend doing this just to keep them on their toes.
We exchanged and completed on the one we were buying on the same day and glad we did because our Mortgage provider had problems with releasing our funds which put the move back 1 day. If we had have exchanged we would have been liable for costs. ( I wouldn't let this put you off, it was a problem between the solicitors and Bank though and was sorted the day after, we also were trying to do it all on a Monday). I'll never move on a Monday again. I would be more enclined to have a big gap between exchange and completion next time, maybe about 2 weeks.0 -
Bear in mind that what you see on these forums isn't representative. If your house purchase/sale goes through smoothly, you've got no need to post about it on the Internet. It's when there are problems that you might need to ask for help/advice.
I've bought twice and never had any traumas. My mum's moved countless times in her life with no major problems (minor stresses with delays, negotations in a chain over completion date - nothing serious though).
Most of the time things are just fine. So don't worry.
