kitten has fleas - i think

Hi, im just looking for advice/ see if anyone else has been in the same posistion. I will be ringing my vets in the morning

Basically I got my kitten on Sept 3rd and flead him that day, he was later seen by the vet for first injections and de wormed on the 9th.

I gave him his second lot of flea stuff on the 3rd Oct and he was seen for his 2nd injections on the 10th Oct.

Between the 9th Sept and 10th Oct he was sneezing so i took him to the vets and he was given antobiotics whilst i was there i mentioned he had a sore under his chin, she pulled it off and looked at his fur and wiped it with cotton wool and on that there was flea droppings/ eggs, i told he we had flead him and i hadnt noticed any fleas etc. She told me to dilute tea tree oil and wipe him down until the droppings had gone etc. I did this and thought the problem had disappeared. However yesterday I noticed the dark flecks again so I look and wiped his fur and there were more droppings/ eggs when i looked under his chin i saw a couple of things moving, not jumping so im not 100% sure what i can do.

He is only 14 weeks old so i dont want to over load him with chemicals, but i also dont want him to get distressed. He hardly scratches and me and my partner have not been bitten/ noticed anything. Im thinking of just getting him a flea comb and doing it that way, does any one have any advice?

Thanks

    Hi

When I got my cat she had a horrible black bits on her chin, turns out it was cat acne. I was told to bathe it regularly and altho' it has never gone it doesn't really bother her. I was wondering if maybe your kit has this? ( mind you I never see moving things in it!).
What are you treating the fleas with? There are many posts on treatments that fleas are becoming resistant to, prescribed solutions from Vets such as Advocat seem to be more effective while supermarket and some Vet treatments such as Frontline are less effective.
Really with such a young animal the vet is your best bet but if you have a comb handy give that a go with a glass of water nearby to drown any little blithers you come across.

Use a good quality veterinary flea and wormer, other than that you must take your vet's advice few here have any veterinary qualifications.

If your kitten has fleas you now need to treat your home with a product like Acclaim or Indorex. Where did you get the kitten from that they came to you with fleas anyway? Please tell the breeder, in extreme circumstances kittens can die from an infestation so I'd be concerned about other litters. :(

Your house definitely needs to be done, it will mke a huge difference. I know what you mean about overloading with chemicals, you vet can tell you how soon you can safely use the frontline that you've got, if you tell him what you used previously.
DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE HOMELESS ANIMALS DIE. GET YOUR ANIMALS NEUTERED TO SAVE LIVES.

I would be very careful using any essential oils such as Tea Tree on a cat....they can be fatally toxic as cats cannot break them down.
Can you check with the vet whether it is safe to give him Capstar or Johnsons4fleas, this would kill any live fleas on him while the environmental spray will deal with the house

Doing the house should make a difference, far more fleas and eggs are in the home than on the pet. Be sure you have done under and behind all furniture, you may want to do your car as well in case you have taken any in on your shoes.
