    Thanks all.

I checked the internet links. Then went to Tesco tonight and found buckets of 80 sweets for £4 so bought two of them so the children can each stand at the door for the visitors to choose.

I will take the children trick and treating first, then we will come home and those sweets that they don't like they can put them in the buckets to make up the remaining sweets I am likely to need.

I have spiders webs and lanterns to go outside the house, so when we have run out I will put a sign on my door saying sweets have run out and bring in all the decorations.

The majority of my childrens school live in the three streets we are in the middle of, so they all visit one anothers houses and parents are dressed up too, it really is a festive atmosphere.

I have also lived in other areas where it feels much more threatening, that at 7:30pm when everything in my new area finishes off, we used to start the nightmare of teenagers knocking with eggs and flour. We used to tape up our letter box.

I like the fact there is a tradition locally here that if a lantern goes up outside the house that people are welcome to call, but all others are to be left alone. It makes some of the older generation feel safer as their doorbells are not ringing in the dark.

I feel for all who dislike it, and feel threatened and wish everyone who can embrace it an enjoyable Halloween.

I let it be known Trick or Treaters are welcome - unless people think that pumpkin lanterns and bat window clings are my idea of home decor!

Enjoy it hun - there is little enough fun in this world without getting all 'Po-Faced' over an old festival! and the purpose of this festival?????? to have fun and poke fun at all the !!!!!ies and ghosties!

The kids seem to love it - so.............hand out the sweeties or whatever and have fun!
  • when i moved here i was suprised how much people really get into the halloween spirit, lots of the houses decorate their houses up etc which i think is really nice considering its not a particulary affluent area.
I send my younger ones out with my eldest two , just around the block etc but they love getting dressed up etc and the whole scary halloween atmospehere. it would be a shame if we suddenly couldnt let our kids do something im sure we all enjoyed ourselves at xmas.

i buy a few assorted tubs of lollys etc from homebargains to hand out to the ones that knock on my door. I dont hand out money as that tends to attract the teenagers and once they know you are handing out money they will arrive back in 5 minutes thinking you dont recognise them:rotfl:

its all harmless fun though, my little ones get so excited talking about haunted houses etc (even though they are too scared to go into kitchen if light is off):o

I don't believe in Trick or treating, but just to answer the question the op asked - Lidl are doing their bags of Soft fruit chews (500g) half price this weekend for just 99p.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • I need to get some Celebrations or similar TODAY. Any offers on the high street? A trip out to the superstore not really possible. I live up a lot of steps, so very rarely get Trick or Treaters; but I don't mind finishing off the chox the day after!
  • Popped into ALDI and got "something similar" to those chocolate sea-shells and Celebrations. Now for an evening hiding behind the sofa with the lights off as they look quite tasty.
  • Well, despite the rain, they all went. I then raided the cupboards and random sweets left over from grandparent visits were added, they went, and then anything else I could find went.

We just had one bad lot steal a handful, everyone else has been very sweet

OP hope you had a great evening,
I personally do not take my children out trick or treating, but we do welcome little guests at our house, we have a choice of wrapped goodies or fruit for the little people that knock. From what I have seen in my area people do not knock on every door, from the looks of it they look for decorations and pumpkins.
