a new bath or a new suite? advice please!

Hi, Would be grateful for any advice or views please.
We are upgrading our bathroom, keeping it traditional in style with the house. The current sink and loo are fine but will need to be taken off as we need to replaster. The bath is very scratched and we definately want to change the bath along with some new taps etc to match the sink and bath. Someone has told us that if we just change the bath it will be a "different white" and look odd and we would be better buying a whole new suite. Is this true?

Ignore this. My advice was incorrect.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

O.P.: there can be considerable variation in shades of white. A new bath could stand out like a sore thumb amongst sanitaryware of a different vintage, material and manufacture.

P.S. we do not sell bathroom products but have been fitting them for 35+ years.;)
Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • thanks for your help, much appreciated.
It looks like a new suitethen. Shame, as I like still like the basin of my old one!
  • if you are removing your basin for plastering why not take it with you (or just the pedestal if you have one), when buying the bath. you will be able to place it alongside the bath to achieve an acceptable colour match.
may be a little inconvenient but well worth it if you don't need to buy all new sanitaryware?
  • i agree with TG above, even a new suite is going to have a slight difference in colour between the bath & the rest of it due to the materials they are made from & the postion in the bathroom (natural light etc), some are worse than others, when it comes to bathroom suites white is not always white.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • I too just wanted a part-suite (a loo), but we have just had a whole new suite & to be fair, I was pleasantly surprised by the prices for the complete suite. Fair enough you can pay into the thousands, but there are deals out there starting at around £400 for a decent modern suite with fittings (plus your plumbing /decor costs). We did upgrade the bath (thickness). But, like us you could sell the removed good suite parts on ebay to part-finance (ours was an obsolete colour).
