  • Hi Janey

Seems fairly standard practice for most / all energy companies. Somehow doesn't seem quite right to lend them money on the understanding that they'll give it you back if you don't spend it all, but that's the way they seem to like it (and who can blame them - it's good for their bank balances....)

I started out with OVO in June 2012 on £72 per month E & G.

They over-estimated massively my first 2 bills, despite me submitting some mid-month readings and in spite of my original usage submission for the previous year in Units. Therefore, they deemed it necessary to up my DD to £121 per month, which is quite a hefty rise.

I couldn't actually be bothered to argue the toss with them at this stage as they will just argue that they don't have any usage history for me, which is true i guess.

4 bills down, and i'm £192 in credit with over 200 units of gas over-estimated on the last bill, again despite my meter readings.

3% interest on the balance doesn't really make up for it, but you need to remember that whatever you pay them you'll get back. i don't think that your increase on the originally proposed DD amount is astronomical, but i think they will give you the money back if you ask (aren't they legally obliged to?) so you could always just give them a buzz each month and demand your credit balance back? :)
