Humax recording query

I've noticed recently that when I program my only just out of guarantee HDR FOX T2, the resultant recording occasionally starts a couple of minutes after the programme has started. I'm only just getting to grips with analogue technology, (I plan to read up on digital technology during the Xmas hols) but I recall that certain "up market" V.C.R.s had a feature which started recording when the programme started. I think that it was the one where you had to enter a 4 digit code.
My query is, doesn't the new all singing, all dancing digital technology on Freeview embrace this feature or has my P.V.R. developed a fault?
p.s. This happens quite regularly on R.T. and Yesterday.

See http://www.which.co.uk/technology/tv-and-dvd/reviews/pvrs/page/features-explained/Recording buffer
TV shows don’t always start and finish bang on time. PVRs with the new Freeview+ facility respond to start/stop signals transmitted by the broadcaster and will record the whole programme even if they start early or overrun.
I'm guessing that the problem lies with the broadcaster not sending the program start and end info at the correct time. I've seen this on my Foxsat HDR occasionally even with mainstream channels.0 -
Many thanks for that, I'll have a look through my destruction manual although I don't suppose my machine has this freeview+ facility. I'll look out for this when my current machine irretrievably breaks down and the big blue screen prevails.0

On most humax boxes you can set for it to begin and end up to five minutes before and after it's due to finish.
All video plus did (that's the codes youre speaking of) is translate the tv guide times into something the vcr understood. It didn't guarantee that it would start or finish on time if the show was late or early.0 -

It's started happening on mine too and as others have said it's not the Humax. Some channels are worse than others and I'm still trying to sort out the best strategy.
I hope the broadcasters get their act sorted. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Thank you all for your most helpful replies. Mr_Toad, if you should come across a successful solution I would be extremely inerested. Assuming of course that I could understand it0

I find it occasionally happens here too, can be quite frustrating missing even the first few seconds of a programme at times. Also, when recording consecutive programmes, there are a few seconds between the switch over which can cause this problem, especially if the broadcasters timings overlap slightly meaning technically you've got 3-4 programmes all trying to record at the same time.
Humax asks you to select which to keep when this occurs which means if you're not sat in front of the box, there can be a delay in the start of a recording.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
As kwikbreaks says - Freesat is just as bad. Luckily most programmes are repeated numerous times so if the missing bit is important I just find another airing and record the first part of it +/- half an hour.0

Spot on, this is the biggest problem. If a program starts late it over runs but the recording ends on time so you miss the end. Sometimes it's only the credits, which is fine, but occasionally you miss the whole ending!!
I set my box to the max 5 min on the end of a recording but this caused problems as you said. If you have two recording 20:00 to 21:00 and you try and schedule another from 21:00 to 22:00 it won't let you as the other two are still recording until 21:05 - very frustrating
So I've put the settings back to the default and am just living with it and hoping the broadcasters get it sorted. I'm not sure there's any thing else we can do.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
