2nd Gen/ 3rd Gen Processor - how do I know in description

Options
I know I prob sound a bit useless but how can I tell when reading the descriptions what gen it is?

I am looking for an I5 if possible.

Have been following some threads on here, but still looking myself too.

Thank you

Basically when you look at the number after the i5 3210m or i5 2467m

the 3 means third gen and the 2 means second gen
  • What motherboard are you thinking of fitting it in.

I am not fitting anything to anything. I wouldn't know how to.

Wishing to buy a laptop for xmas and finding it hard to compare one against the other as I do not know what was the newest / latest.

I would grab the exact model number and look it up on the manufacturers website.

if it lists a HD4000 or HD2500 as its graphics card thats also a def 3rd gen.

TBH the performance gains are not massive, the graphics performance is but it still cant hold a candle to a dedicated card.
And not too relevant if your not gaming.

Honestly the cost saving on an older laptop is probably a sweeter deal then the extra 5-15% cpu performance.
