unfortunately there seems to be worrying evidence on threadworms that the medicines dont actually work efectively, i made the mistake of looking on a forum of adults who had been battling with them for years, become compulsive cleaners, wearing gloves to bed etc and shovelling large amounts of pumkin seeds down their throats in desperate attempts to get rid of them (pumkin seeds actually paralize them worms temporily ) so followed up by a good laxative can flush them out..
it doesnt matter how effective you are at drumming hygeine into your kids they can be picked up from door handles etc so another child with worms could effectively leave eggs on a desk, handle etc, your child has washed there hands..opens up door, reaches into lunchbox and picks out their apple for lunch etc and bobs your uncle in goes the eggs...
like nits it doesnt matter how much you comb and brush your childs hair etc, the minute your kids enter that school they are going to risk coming home with one of the critters:(
its nothing to be ahamed of though..the good parents are the one that notice and actually act and are actually bothered enough to come on here or ask others for advice, go to doctors etc
I know im a stickler for monitering my kids hand washing etc at home but we cant be with our kids every minute and unfortunately they are going to come across stuff in the outside world.:(***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
The best way to look for worms is to go armed with a torch after your child has been in bed for a few hours and have a look. My eldest DD got them a few times when she was younger. I never said worms to her as I thought it would frighten her, kids tend to think of earth worms! They are easily treated, but you have to treat the whole family and go to town cleaning the bathroom etc, also buy nail brushes and ask that everyone uses them. worm the cat, but the infections are not related0

I don't see a lot of point in checking because if you don't see anything it doesn't mean he doesn't have worms. The symptoms you describe mean that he might, and the medication isn't harmful, so you might as well dose him as well as the rest of the family.
You catch worms from eggs that people have got on their hands when they go to the toilet, so as well as taking medication, you also need to wash towels and sheets in hot water and wipe down the bathroom and all your door handles with diluted bleach. That way the family shouldn't reinfect themselves (this is why a second dose is recommended too).
He's probably caught them from school so it might be worth telling them and also impressing on him the importance of washing his hands really well after going to the toilet at school (not saying he hasn't been doing this, as there are many other ways he could catch them, but it may help).0
