Housing Benefit Advice

I am looking for some advice about Housing Benefit.

My Partner is currently on Contribution Based ESA - Work Related Group
I am currently on Incapacity Benefit.

I have recently moved in with him and we have advised the council and DWP of the changes.

Putting our information into the turn to us benefit calculator it is saying we are entitled to a lot less Housing Benefit. Can anyone advise me if this is correct because if it is I will probably have to move out!

When he lived alone he was getting £100.38 Housing benefit a week.
Now I have moved in the calculator is saying we are only entitled to £56.83

Can anyone advise me please? Many Thanks.

I have not done an exact calculation but yes, those figures do appear correct. Your household income is significantly higher, so it shouldn't be too much of a struggle?
  • But if you have moved in with him, you no longer have YOUR rent to pay, or any bills. Everything is now shared so you are expected to make up the shortfall from your now-combined income.

  • I live with my parents at the moment, so am not really paying much in the way of rent, bills ect. It just came as a bit of a shock is all, it is not something I thought about when deciding to move in with him. I have no problems paying the extra, just wanted to make sure the calculations were correct. We have had a long chat and there are areas where I can cut my spending (the chat made me realise just how frivolous I had been with my money!) Many thanks for your replies and advice.
