We received a payment from the DWP for CA for the months January to March 07. They have said that they cannot pay us after April due to my wife earning too much. Slightly confused to why they paid us before and yet won't pay us now. She was on the same wage then, so what changed?

They don't give much leway regarding what you can earn the minimum you can earn is £87. my wife earns £88pw and if you were on minimum wage you'd be on £85.60 for working 16 hours per week.

My wife as to work 16 hours to be entilted to WTC and CTC. So really they don't give much to go on.

I noticed on the entitled to calculator there is a part where you fill in if you give anything via gift aid.
If she was to give a pound a week to gift aid would it make a difference to appealing for CA?

also don't forget any payments you get from carers allowance will reduce your wtc and ctc as it is counted as income.

I don't think gift aid will count, nor would travel costs to work (not certain on this), but I'm fairly sure she can count half of any pension deductions (this is what IS, HB and CTB allow, so I'd think CA would allow it) - so if she checks if she can join any pension scheme they have and perhaps pay £5 a week to it, she might be able to get CA?

Gift Aid is allowed to reduce her earnings but its a complicated thing to set up by the company so not such a good option.

I'll say it one more time, SEE POST NUMBER 8!

I'm still humming and arring about applying for Carer's Allowance. I am sole carer for my severely disabled partner. We have children and claim DLA (higher), IS x 2, CTB, HB and CTC.

The only reason I'm hesitating is because I was told that as Carer's Allowance is a taxable benefit, it affects (reduces) HB and CTB and potentially we could end up worse off!

Not sure how accurate this info was - it came off replies from this site. Someone else then said that as I was a fulltime carer, if I was paid carer's allowance, I would then be eligible for WTC but this seems ludicrous! (though the whole tax credits ethos seems topsy turvy to me).
    Integrity is a dying art!:p
