Those "screaming hyper kids" probably aren't too happy about teachers being on holiday in the same hotel as them either.0 -
I have worked in customer service for many years; my last company (global manufacturing) and current (smaller online) have the stipulation that you could not take holiday at the same time as your "buddy", e.g. myself and another person covered all UK accounts between us, so if one of us was off the other had to be in working to cover. Prior to this, I worked for a large UK marketing company; we operated according to 2-weekly cycles, and if we wanted 2 consecutive weeks holiday it had to be split across 2 separate cycles i.e. you could not take 1 whole cycle off. Nothing particularly restrictive. I have only had 1 holiday request ever turned down, and that was because I was fairly new at the time and misinterpreted the holiday system - someone else was off at that time.
It doesn't surprise me that certain companies restrict holiday during key periods; if you were a company whose primary business was conducted during a particular couple of months, it should not come as a surprise to your employees that they should be expected to be around during those months. When I worked in retail it was generally expected that no-one would request extensive holiday around Christmas, as this is when the shop would be heaving and we needed all hands on deck; the odd day might be permissable, but that was it.0 -
I think I am quite lucky.
I work in web server support and we do 24/7/365 phone support
I get 25days paid holiday+bank hols or equivalent in lieu
We have to give 4weeks notice to take 1day-1week off, longer for anymore than that. The way the shifts work if you are organised you can book 2days off and get a week, if you are booking in a week you normally only work 2x12hour shifts.
In general everything is first come first serve, but if you try to book time off more than 4months in advance without solid reason it may not go down well as the rota wont even be made for that yet!
It is then up to the manager to approve but they won't refuse without good reason, and it works on first come first serve as we can't have more than 2 at most people off from same team on one day, usually just 1.
The same goes for bank hols, the first few people to get in a request for it off get it, I got my requests for xmas and new years in early, others missed out because they left it to late and now have to work those days but are owed days off in lieu for them to choose like any other.

I work for a large company (15k people worldwide) and I can take holiday whenever I want, even at short notice, provided there is cover. Even if there is no cover, they are usually pretty good especially with last minute time off.Debt 30k in 2008.:eek::o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I work in a team of 6 admin staff, plus one senior, plus one filing clerk.
We have no restrictions on annual leave, other than they don't like more than 2 admin staff off at the same time. We usually manage it!0 -
We have to take a fortnight at xmas and couple days at Easter, the rest can be taken whenever - company of 90 employees. Hubby has to work Xmas and New Year as per normal shift routine and normally ends up with weeks off around Mar-April - UK wide company...... theres about 20 in our area for holiday purposes - no restrictions as such expect cant book any time off in Dec (our busiest time) altho most likely some dates will become available for those who have kept holidays back to see if it opens (i havent cos im not bothered)0

Medium sized company with few locations abroad. Everyone is off at Xmas, place is shut.
Then you have to be mindful of deadlines, i am in finance so beginnings of month are a no no, unless special circumstances apply (my special Birthday for example, planned in advance and boss works around those days).
And then everyone shouldn't be off at the same time obviously.. But that is not a problem in our team.
Otherwise no, no other restrictions.0 -
I work in Local Government, and get 30 days paid leave plus up to 12 days a year flexi leave (if i can build up the time), plus bank holidays, and can pretty much take my leave when I want, so by the sounds of it, I'm quite lucky!Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0
