Creams or oils that contain Allantoin

I would like a body cream, preferably :money:that contains high levels of Allantoin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allantoin), I am thinking of Comfrey cream or maybe oil, does anyone have any recommendations? I would also like a moisturising product I can use on my face as I am having very good results from my new mineral make up that contains Allantoin. I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis on my face and and seborrheic keratosis on my body (gosh I sound attractive :rotfl:) which I am currently also treating with TCA peels with an excellent result so far - other advice and suggestions are also welcome:)

I like allantoin very much but less is more, remember you will be applying only a very tiny 'dose' of the power compared to a moisturiser. You could make up your own product? This store is reputable and MSE, the owner is a research scientist and a her recipes are very well researched

What actives have you tried on your body before - urea, lactic acid? What oils and lipids on your face? Be careful which oils you choose, certain fatty acids may feed the malassezia yeast and exacerbate the SD, also some research suggests oleic acid in sebum and many plant oil (olive, almond, avocado etc.) may be pro-inflammatory for example.

Are you consistently eating a low glycaemic index, anti inflammatory diet? This is a good source of scientific information generally, Wikipedia is patchy http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed

Thanks Fire Fox, I am using Eucerin Hylauronic acid cream atm on my face and nothing at all on my body, I have to confess to being very uninformed about oils and lipids, your comments about fatty acids feeding the yeast make a lot of sense and I would welcome your suggestions and info, I'll have a goggle too a bit later.

The Allantoin is new to me and I have noticed a very quick (about 3 days) and noticeable change in my facial skin since I have been using mineral make up tbh I didn't realise I had such a bad problem until it started to get better:o I just thought my skin was on the dry side and problematic even though I have had SD diagnosed previously some years ago , the website I bought the make up from states that Allantoin is the healing ingredient in their products and I went from there, I also have a sample of a night treatment from them in powder form which is inexpensive to buy.

The SK is mainly on my back and is hereditary and possibly from extreme sun damage when I was a child, the TCA peels are removing most of it but I would like a maintenance cream or oil when I'm done with the peels.

I eat a mainly low carb diet and generally fast for 18 hours then eat, this seems to keep my energy levels up and my weight down.

Thanks for the links, very interesting, I'm going to research making my own cream but your input would be greatly appreciated, oh knowledgeable one ;):D

Try Avent Baby Bottom cream - you can get it in Mothercare or Boots. Don't be put off by the name, it is excellent as a facial moisturiser.

Did a bit of research on here and have some up with this very old thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/812235 but it does has some possibly useful info, after a bit more research on google it appear that Daktarin gold cream could help with the SD and nizoral shampoo as a body wash to maintain once I have got rid of the SK, also recommended is hydrogen peroxide (i already have 3% and 9%) as maintenance used topically once a week or so. Udder cream comes up a lot in the searches for Allantoin, anyone tried that? as does Cuticura dry skin moisture lotion.

I use the nizoral shampoo and the cream ( cream is prescription only). However as Im getting older its getting worse and more difficult to control

I remember one of the members on here saying she had great results with the allantoin cream after she too found the EB foundation was working for her ( I too use that but dont wear daily). We did tease her at the time about buying udder cream but she found something else which she slapped on at night. Said it was too greasy for day use.

I cant remeber her addy - jeanie perhaps? MrsE might remember

I'd question if you are getting a balance of all the nutrients the body requires on a daily basis with low carb AND fasting, sorry but that sounds restrictive. Skipping meals and eliminating food groups can actually put the body into a state of stress and encourage systemic inflammation. Have you had a state registered dietician go over your food diary? Are you eating a wide range of anti inflammatory foods and the right balance of fats for skin health?

Maintaining a healthy weight is only one of the many aspects of wellbeing, if you do this with restrictive eating practices it's possible your weight is artificially low through dehydration (1g glycogen to 3g water) and muscle wasting. Do you know what your water percentage and body fat percentage are using calipers or a medical grade machine?

Thank you both, Suki, I saw the cream you are referring to in the old thread I linked to, I might get some and use it at night but I am concerned about Fire Foxes comments re certain oils feeding the problem, I shall research more into that.

Fire Fox, I'm not sure what anti inflammatory foods are, again more research is needed, I would be willing to change my diet if it would be beneficial but I would not be prepared to gain weight but I'm sure I can work round this:)

    I think it was Jeanieblue.
Do you want me to ask her on Facebook?

That would be good if you dont mind, the creams I mentioned previuosly are very hard to find, I've bought a night treatment powder from the mineral make up company so thats a start.

Foods that are particularly anti-inflammatory are oily fish and to a lesser extent omega enriched eggs (long chain omega-3s), borage oil (the omega-6 GLA), many fruit and vegetables - especially those which are rich in antioxidants, rich in soluble fibre and lower in sugars, many spices (antioxidants), low sugar dark chocolate (antioxidants). Ideally you would be having nine portions a day of low glycaemic index bright or deep coloured fruit and vegetables. The balance of omega-3s to omega-6s is important not just the amount of omega-3s.

Pro inflammatory foods - so those that should be limited or avoided - include larger portions of animal protein, sugars, white/ refined carbs, caffeine, alcohol, most omega-6 fatty acids, animal fats and trans fats. Ideally you would have protein little and often through the day, the body simply cannot process more than about 30g of pure protein at one time, or about 100g of meat. Each time you eat you actually boost the metabolic rate because you are telling the body it is not in a famine, and digestion itself burns calories and 'wastes' energy as heat. Skipping meals can cause the body to go into a state of stress, which is inflammatory.

With low carb it's easy not to be getting all the minerals you need - mineral rich foods being wholegrains, beans and lentils, nuts and seeds. Due to portion sizes it's difficult to eat enough nuts and seeds to get enough minerals - and just to confuse matters many nuts and seeds are rich in omega-6s and you don't want an excess of these compared with long chain omega-3s in the diet.
