Shocked at how the price of cornbeef is just going up and up.

Local Mr T was well over £2 a tin ( no value tins)

Mr T and Mr M also have value corned beef for £1.54

Obviously this is just a coincidence, not price fixing.

The last tin i bought which was at least a year ago was one from Lidl, I think it has a picture of a ship on the tin, that was quite nice, not a lot of fat.

Not sure of the price, I am going shopping later, will check it out unless anyone posts the price in the meantime.

    ;)

    Update:

Lidl had two makes, one was £1.69, the other (Cutlers) £1.99.

I think the one with a ship on the tin was from B&M's.
  • Home Bargains had some about £1.30 a tin, also Morrisons own brand was under £1.50 HTH

  • There's a 'shop' near where i live called Farm choice quality foods. (I used the ' ' because it's not really a shop but is open to the public...) where they sell sliced roast beef, ham, chicken, turkey and pork for £3.29 per KG.

Weight for weight, corned beef is double that. Corned beef, tuna and spam were always deemed 'poor mans meat', but these days they are more expensive than 'real' meat.

Most of the increases are simply down to share-holders wanting a better return in my opinion...

In the early 90's i used to live on corned beef meals, if i remember right, i used to pay about 29 - 35p a tin.

Spam was also a very affordable foodstuff that was a godsend to anyone who was skint a week before payday.

The only spam i get these days is via my e-mail inbox...:(
