Make and model of 'big telly' would help.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Ha!!! Good idea. My telly is a Sony Bravia 46' KDL-46Z4500.

    Hope this helps?

You have two choices to choose from.

If your computer has HDMI out then all you need is an HDMI cable from the computer to one of the HDMI ports on the TV, this will carry both the video and sound to the TV.

If your computer doesn't have HDMI but does have VGA then you will need a VGA cable connected to the PC IN of the TV you will also need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable from the computers headphone out to the TVs PC IN as well.

Set-up should be mostly automatic, but if it isn't click the 'Windows key + P' and select 'projector only' and you will end up with the picture on the TV only with the correct resolution.

There's also DVI-HDMI if DVI is available on the PC.

  • thank you so much. this is really helpful. that's the long winter nights taken care of. x
  • DVI-D doesnt include sound so if you go for a DVI-D to HDMI setup you still need the separate audio cable as per the suggested VGA solution
