If I have an MS Word file with a picture in it, can I save the picture as a jpeg file or something I can edit with Paint?
I used a scanner in the local library, but the staff (and I) have no idea how to use it to do anything other than put a picture into a Word file.
(My version of Word is 2010, but the file has been converted from an older one, if that makes any difference.)

You should just be able to right click on the picture and select copy then open up mspaint (start > run > mspaint) and choose edit - paste
from there you can go file > save as jpegOwner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

In 2010 upwards you can simply right click the picture, and "save as picture" from within Word, and save it where you'd like. Easy peasy0
