8x4 sheets is probably the best way to buy chipboard (try Wickes as they are often cheaper like for like for standard things like chipboard sheets), but bear in mind that your loft hatch is only going to be about 2ft across, and you'll have limited clearance in the loft so those big sheets will take a lot of cutting! Might be worth budgeting for either B&Q to cut them on their big sheet saw, or for hiring a circular saw for a day to do the cutting.Adventure before Dementia!0

i was thinking of cutting them in half...0

I used 8 X 2 chip board flooring in my loft, the problem I had was getting the stuff up in to the loft. I nearly hung myself when one of the boards got away from me as I was putting it through the hatch and my head got caught between the board and the loft hatch. Please be very careful.Nothing to see here, move along.0

ROFL i can just picture that happening.0

i did my loft a short while ago and was in the same mind about buying bigger boards and cutting them down.
In the end i went for the B&Q ones though as they are dirt cheap, and they are also tounge and grooved meaning they form a nice tight floor which looks super cool and professional0 -
I floored half my loft with my old kitchen units and doors, all 15mm chipboard. A couple of years later a friend was replacing her kitchen so I finished the job with her old units. Cost me nowt except my time. It was a bit of a job as every piece had to be cut and I had to remove all the knobs and hinges first, but money was tight so it was worth it.
₤6 per sheet sounds cheap so looks like a good deal. You could also look at stirling board/OSB, it looks like compressed wood shavings. B & Q may have a board cutting facility at your local store so it's worth getting them to do the hard work for you. Don't forget to use a dust mask for your own cuts.

B&Q actually sell budget circular saws for around £15 with the blade included. Even if it only lasted the job of cutting the loft boards before packing in (which it won't, as we did 36 floorboard with one a couple of weeks ago), it would probably end up being cheaper than hiring one.0 -

this is very true. When i tiled the kitchen floor (not recomended for the faint hearted _pale_ ) we were going to rent a diamond bit circular saw but happened across one in B&Q for £30 with a bench. The one we were going to rent was £36 plus the disc! Its truely dead now, but still cheaper0
