Paying in partner's cheque into joint account

Myself and my fiancee have a joint account. She recently got a cheque which is payable to her name only. Can I deposit the cheque in the branch using my joint account card, or will she have to do it?
We're with Nationwide if that makes a difference. I've tried to search but haven't found anything definitive. It sounds like it would be ok if we were married, but having separate names I'm not so sure. As her name is on the joint account I can't see this being a problem but wanted to check before wasting a journey!
Thanks for any help.

I do this all the time. My husband gets a cheque in his name. I go down and deposit into our joint account. We're with RBS. My son and his girlfriend aren't married but they have a joint account and don't have any problems either - they're with the Bank of Scotland.
I would think that as long as your name is on the account, it wouldn't matter if you weren't married.0 -
If both names are on the account, cheques can be paid in bearing either name or both.
Anyone can deposit a cheque into anyone's account as long as they have the account number and sort code - it doesn't have to be paid in by the account holder.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Or to put it another way;
a joint account is a joint account irrespective of any other legal relationship that might exist between the two (or more) parties involved.0 -
Nationwide will certainly let you do this - with your card, to remove any possible doubt0

Definitely possible.
The only problem would come with putting a joint cheque into a sole account, or a joint cheque into a joint account, bearing only one of the parties.
There are ways to circumvent this, however.

Nope:
I've had a few cheques written out to me with my middle intial included and the said initial illegible/wrong or easily confused with another letter....and I'd agree they were.
In two cases they were rejected by the paying in bank cashier as not made out to my name.
The third I managed to slide by the cashier without them noticeing as the dodgy one was amongst a number of correctly written ones.
In all cases I should add these were genuine payments/cheques due to me and I had to get the rejected ones re-written by the cheque-writer.0
