Child & working tax credit confusion

This is my first time doing a post, please advise if you can.
Tax credit year 2011-2012, I have 2 children 1st son turned 20 in March 29th 2012 2nd son 13. Our payments stopped April.
We completed our renewal form our total household income was £26,056. I appealed the decision as I forgot to declare gift aid payments I made, they upheld my appeal and sent a new amended notice £25,918 and money owed.
Our new 2012-2013 notice has now come in with an award of 0.00. I phoned and was told we didn't qualify as it has been calculated using a threshold of 23,500. I explained I don't understand as going by their own site and many other advice site the threshold is £26,000.
I asked do I need to appeal again and was advised I shouldn't as this would have to go further up the chain, as they believe the web advises are incorrect. What do you believe? I don't want to leave this and waste time not appealing. Would be keen to get you help and advice please. Thank you

So your 11/12 income was 25,918? Does one of you work at least 30 hours?

Have you estimated a lower income for 12/13? Are all of the details right on the notice (including the income figures)?

EDITED to add: The actual cut off point is not quite 26,000 it is just under at 25,703 so if your 12/13 is based on income from 11/12 of 25,918 you won't qualify for anything. HMRC just round the 25,703 up slightly to 26,000. See http://www.revenuebenefits.org.uk/pdf/Income_limits_WTC_and_CTC_combined.pdf for the actual cut-off rates.

  • Thank you for replying so quickly,
Our 11/12 income £25,918. I work 2 jobs 48 hours a week. My husband is disabled, how gets industrial injury benefit with DLA higher rate mobility & middle care rate. Our eldest son claims carers allowance as he helps look after him while I'm at work.
It's very misleading on all the websites stating 1 child with income £26,000
    Thanks for your advise

I do appreciate the 26000 is a bit misleading, but even if it was correct, your award for the whole year would only be £33.62 so very small as you are so close to the limit.
