Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 20th October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in,put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby's off to work soon & I shall go to the butchers & bakers once I've dropped him off. I've made him ham sandwiches to take with him & he's eating cooked breakfast as I type.
I need to tidy round when I get home as it's getting messy & I've had very little energy this week as hubby has done 3 different shifts in one week!

A handy tip for anyone wanting to get the sack from work, post an insulting rant on facebook about your boss, include lots of swear words & plenty of character assassination (sp), this is very effective & works quickly too! No it wasn't me, even I'm not that stupid.

Have a lovely day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning Hester and all who follow,

8 hours solid sleep last night so can't complain that I'm wide awake at 7am really.

Not sure what my plans are for today yet. Either shopping with girls followed by popping into visit my parents, or a day of batch cooking and sorting.

OS wise - WM will go on, hopefully try dry it off outside if weather holds. Batch cooking maybe, if not a freezer meal for dinner. Dishes to wash.

Can't wait for Strictly later :j

    Have a good day all

  • Good morning Hester and to those who cross/follow,
Very dull here today but it's not raining.
Wm is on. Have taken clothes off the airer to make space. Need to have a good tidy round. We have had workmen in creating dust everywhere. As fast as you clear up, the dust is back. Now that all of the messy work has been done it should settle down and be ok.
Hubby is at work, girls are in bed and the dog is also still asleep. Enjoying a cuppa and the peace.
Gammon with potatoes and salad for tea tonight.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning all - had 7 hours uninterrupted sleep which is nothing less than a miracle. My neck's been very sore since all the decluttering on Wednesday. Mum's here for the weekend, and I intend to offload lots of books to Oxfam (like I say every time I have a day off). I'm thinking thin steak sandwiches for lunch. That's as far as I've got because I'm still half-asleep. I know Lidl have gammon joints on offer for £3.99 at the moment, and the equivalent would be £7 in Asda, so I'll trunde up and see if I can get one.

Have a good day everyone :)

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Dull overcast foggy dreich and miserable here this morning! DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was rosemary coated roast chicken pieces, roasted whole new potatoes, veg and gravy. Roasted whole new potatoes for the first time really pleased with how they came out, they were delicious, was a bit of a lazy dinner as only had to prep other veg.

Did food shopping yesterday morning, bought quite a few more of the ingredients for the xmas cake and xmas puds - so I should be able to get those made in the half term week. For those that don't know MrA are doing the £5 off £40 shop again at the moment, I've just checked my receipt from yesterday and have the £5 voucher printed off but also did a price guarantee and that gave me a £2.38 voucher - so have £7.38 worth of vouchers to use - lovely - but just wish they would lower their prices in general then! Was reasonably productive again yesterday, managed to get more washing done, although of course I now have more, definitely won't be drying on the line here, as weather not good, so TD it shall have to be. Went to town, went to bank - got home, shredded more papers, did ironing, collected big car from the garage, did some work on the pc.

I'm now enjoying cuppa and brekkie after my shower, DS2 already up and made his own brekkie, he made my cuppa too this morning - really enjoyed he got it just right, thinking he's just got himself a job! DS1 still in his pit and doesn't want to come to town, I'm only going to buy study guides for them both, will be coming straight home after to crack on with jobs. Want to change our bedding and get last load in WM, also will then be able to doing some baking at my leisure, dinner tonight will be gammon steaks, egg, onion sauce, mash and veg - unless anyone wants anything different. Bought a leg of lamb for tomorrow - was expensive but will be making sure I get another meal from it for Tues night, will do my usual cauli/brocc cheese, carrots, spring greens, yorkshires and gravy with it - so lots of LO's that will make up the meal Tues evening, will make casserole of gravy and re-heat meat in it and serve with pots and LO's veg etc.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Have a good day, stay safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

Hester How can someone be so stupid?

Hugs for Hilstep, Molly and LW.

    Big hugs for Maud.

Sistercas Happy birthday to your DD.

nmlc My DS won't make a cuppa for me, he says that the smell makes him feel sick! DD1 and DD2 make plenty of tea for me though.

Half term is finally here. I have a quiet week planned at the moment as I really need to recharge my batteries. Today I am having my hair cut and restocking the food cupboards.

HM lasagne for tea tonight as everyone is in for a change and it is everyones favourite.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning all,

Dull here but no rain atm, got 3 loads to to in the wm, hope it stays dry, OH came home from work covered in mud from head to foot, he tripped over at work fell in the mud and hurt his wrist :o:rotfl: (not laughing at the hurt wrist honest) so his work things went on a hot wash last night.

Dropping dd off at work this morning, and then home to have a tidy through, have got mum and dad and sis and OH coming for an afternoon tea later, it my mum and dads 50th Anniversary today :T its quite a feat getting dad home, he cant walk at all so we use the wheelchair, then the men lift him into an armchair, dont know how we will manage with OH's wrist but we will somehow.

So dinner will be sandwiches and cake etc, nice and easy.

Sistercas Happy Birthday to your dd, hope she has a great day xx

    BB how is Maud ?

    Have good days all xx

Morning all, bright and sunny here! Have got wm on with first load and am off shortly to get a hair trim! Will pop into alzz and get milk and bread. When I get back I will be on with tidying up and the inevitable cleaning as well as peace management between the boys! If it stays fine I will encourage OH to drag the boys out for an adventure (dog walk!). I am looking for fir cones, teasels and cowslip heads to spray with glitter for Christmas! Need to get some jam jars for the extra marmalade I made!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
