Buying a car 380 miles away

Hi
Would like some advice.

I've found the car that I want with the right spec and cost, however, it is not at my local showroom. It's a BMW and its in their Dundee showroom and I'm in Cambs. I don't mind buying it from them - but is there anything I need to be aware of or look out for or even ask etc before I part with any money.

How would I go about negotiating price, delivery etc? Has anyone got any tips?

Thanks in advance.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I once found a car I wanted in Edinburgh, I'm in London. I asked 1000 questions on the phone then decided it was worth the train fare up there to look it over before making a decision to part with many thousands of pounds.

I loved the car, drove it back to London and still have it now. If you can cover every question, explain you'll be coming a LONG way and won't appreciate any bull, then make a decision based on what you hear.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Scotland, but it was a heck of a drive home!

It's almost 2k cheaper with more spec than the ones around here. I've been waiting for my local dealer to find one for 3 months. They are being either really stupid or useless or both.

The alternative would be to get my dealership to talk to the other dealership but then how would that work?

Did you secure any fuel for your drive home? And it will be a long drive home but in a new comfortable car.

you do exactly the same as you would if it were 300 miles away..
    or 250...
    or 200...
    or 100...
    or 50...
    or 10...
    what is your perceived problem?

If it's within the BMW dealer network then phone them and see if they can do anything for you. For a deposit they may be willing to shunt it down the country.

If not, then it's a nice trip out to dundee anyway...

I negotiated with an Audi dealer. Paid £100 deposit and they delivered car for free. It was agreed I pay balance on receipt, if not as described I would reject the car and lose £100.

Go onto the BMW owners club forum. See if there is a member near to the seller and ask them to have a look for you.

I belong to a car group and we regularly do this for fellow members.

Agree. If it's in the dealer network, and especially if it's an approved used vehicle then you should have no problems buying it from and getting it delivered to your local dealership. Have you spoken to them about it?

As guardian angel has already found, there can be a massive difference in prices of pretty much the same car around the country and these days it makes sense to look at the bigger picture to get the best deal.
