My situation is basically this, i was made redundant I. July and am now self employed, I filled out a p50 to claim my tax back, when in the tax office the women never implied I would not get.my tax back, however i did not submit my form due to a problem, so went back the next week and saw somebody different, she told me that i would not be entitled to claim ny tax back, but I could submit the form if I wanted to, i did.
But who is right, i did not go over my personal allowance and I will not go near it before april, I don't want to get.my hopes up, sorry if posted in wrong sectio .

Whether you are due a tax refund will depend on your total income and tax paid at the end of the tax year.
They tend not to give rebates part way through the year unless you are not expected to earn more in the rest of the year0 -
Normally any tax refund due is collated and processed at years end for all.
Working people or those signing onJSA/ESA contributions based type or getting a private pension - P60's (P50).
Self employed goes by net profits declared after all expenses deducted -can be a net loss as well. It is then set off against your personal allowance.
Shares/stocks - You need to fill in an R40 and send in proof that tax was deducted (the dividend slips).
Building society or bank accounts - if you are on a low income, you can sign a form to stop tax being deducted at 10%.
Or at least it used to work that way when I worked there in the 1980's.0
