Wording a response to buyer

Sold a bulky item cheapish BIN last night. Ad said cash on collection and item needs to collected promptly.

Buyer has now messaged to say they would prefer to collect early November when she moves house and pay by Paypal.

Messaging on and off all day, lots of messing round, I'm trying to be helpful and flexible but I have to move out of my place before end of month. I can be there any day in the next week /any time for collection.

Eventually buyer said has arranged a van for early next week. She says she is working straight through til next week now and so wants me to come back the 15 miles with the van to collect the payment from her house! Hmm I don't think I want to do that!

This is getting to be a lot of hassle for £35!

I need to make a clear response but not sure exactly what to say to protect myself. TBH if it's not collected next week I'm fairly stuffed as far as selling it is concerned anyway.

Thanks for any advice

Cash on collection is always a difficult one- you can insist on the colleciton but enforcing the cash only bit is occasionally probelmatic.

All you can do is say politely, but firmly that collection will be possible this week between the hours of xx and xx or next weekend. However you cannot wrap or box the item to go by van and will require cash in hand before you release the goods to a van driver.

You could even add that if buyer is unable to arrange this then perhaps the transaction could be mutually cancelled and what would she prefer to do?

That isn't ideal as buyer can say yes to cancel and then refuse the mutual costing you your fees. The only other way would be to NPB them after 4 days, but that run the very real risk of them paying by paypal.

Alternatively ask them to send the money via bank transfer 24 hours before collection- buyer has every right to say no of course, but they might just agree.
