British Gas Offer

I have recently switched from British Gas variable tariff to the Scottish Power fixed tariff as advised on here. However British Gas have now offered me a £200 discount to stay. This would be cheaper now but is it worth it in the longterm. Please help xxxx

If it's cheaper, surely it would be worth it.
When will they credit you this?
What stops you switching immediately thereafter?
  • Only slightly cheaper in the long run. Need to ask if there is a switching penalty. You need to stay full year to get the discount.

Oh well, it it's only slightly cheaper, I wouldn't bother, especially if you have to wait 12 months for the credit.

A bird in the hand... ;)

The calculation is simple enough, just factor it in. If with the discount it's the cheapest tariff, then it's worth accepting. If someone else is £201 cheaper, then move. A comp site will reveal all in a couple of minutes.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Be careful they offered me £150 to stay with them about 6 weeks ago, tempted but said to B G double it and fix until April 2014. If they had done that I would of been very tempted. I am glad they didn't, they increased their prices in the last two weeks, but the fix was the words they didn't like, no wonder. The beauty of it was that night money supermarket dropped their £30 bung for moving to EDF for their online Blue + Price Promise April 2014, so I just made the deal in time. Which means I will be paying the same price as last year for the next 18 months. Makes a pleasant change for me to get one right.
