Good Gaming computer!!

Hi,

My son is looking for a Gaming computer and I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? He is looking at spending about £500 and wants something he can upgrade as and when he has more money.

I have seen the Alienware X51 with a i3 processor on Dell for approx £530 after discounts would this be any good?
Thanks

I wouldn't really go for the x51 as and upgrade target because it has a custom sff case.

I would probably self build everything, get a decent motherboard that supports ivy bridge processors, the scimp a bit on everything else.

Agree. How old is he? He will get a lot of fun and learn a lot from building it himself.

IMHO I wouldn't scrimp too much on the graphics card though if it's for gaming.

He is 14, so building one could be an option.

Are there any companies you would recommend that we look at? I have looked at a few but when I look at reviews some have really bad after sales service.

    Thanks for all your help

With £530, have a look at this

Assuming you are not going to OC, upgrade RAM to 2 x 4GB DDR 1600, GPU to 7770 & 500W PSU

This link is a Google shopping search for a typical cpu, ordered by Seller Rating. If you ignore the ebay ones you'll get a good idea of reliable etailers. Just a case then of hunting for best prices.

He did see a ready built one on overclockers but I checked some review sites and they had quite a few bad reviews so that put us off.

Will have a chat with him about maybe building his own.

    Thanks again.

If he has a computer already then you could use that case.
You can buy a overclocked bundle that's already had the processor and heatsink plus memory assembled by professionals.
Anybody that's fitted a motherboard before could help your son build his own system plus you will have a few £s left over for a graphics card if needed.
The integrated graphics on this model is quite good if you are not using the new graphic intensive games
