Classic insurance for an S Class
Can anyone help? I have been thinking about getting a W140 S Class as a second car. The car will be parked in residents parking and have an annual mileage less then 5000 per year. The vehicle will cost between £800 - £2000. I have 15 years NCB on a different car. Insurance quotes have been around £700 which seems excessive for such a cheap car.

You really need a specialist like Lancaster or Adrian Flux for this. "Standard" insurers can't see beyond the fact you can only have ncb on one car at a time.0

I don't think you'll get NCD on a second car.0

You don't get ncb on the "other" car, but they're experienced enough to understand the use of classics, give credit for a clean record and produce a reasonable quote.0

I used to use Chris Knott both when I had a classic as a second car and when I had a regular car as a second car. In both cases they had policies which would match the discount I got on my main policy although on the second policy it was a discount and not a NCD.0

Have a look on www.mbclub.co.uk they might be able to point you in the right directionWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Another one worth trying is a broker in north London called "Sky Insurance" (different company to the one's that do the telly).
I'm guessing the big Mercs are grouped high because of their value when new. Performance and cost of repair won't help. I don't think £700's bad for one of these cars, but I suppose it's all relative.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

To get proper classic they want something over 25 years and garaged at night.
Thats the cheapest policies i ever had. As mentioned they dont give you no claims to take away, But ive covered MG's and RangeRovers for £99 a year.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Another one to try is Peter Best.
My 11 year old MGF is insured with them on a classic car policy (driveway parked) agreed valuation, 5000 annual mileage limit, breakdown cover £180.0 -
Sureterm direct. They were about £100 for my 89 Renault.0
