natwest letter

hi all.
im after some advice if at all possible. i have banked with natwest since i was 17 and im now 37,over the years i have had numerous loans amounting to quite a large amount all paid off in full and never any problems with the payments every month, one loan would always top up the last now i im pretty sure i had ppi on all these loans and im pretty sure it was all front loaded or added without my full understanding of the product, now i dont claim to be a finacial whizz and i never cared much for the finer details of the loan and have long since put paperwork in places i cannot recall,as long as the loan was agreed i was happy...silly maybe but honest and true. i paid off the outstanding amount of my last loan around 18 months ago. so two weeks ago i wrote to natwest asking for a full account history of all my loans so i could trawl through all the details and make a decision about maybe claiming. i received aletter back from natwest today and im a little confused, a brief outline of what it said is
"thankyou for your letter regarding information on your loans we assume this is for the purpose of a ppi claim"
surely the shouldnt assume anything and furnish me with what i require???
"please write back to us stating your exact reasons for complaint"
i want my loan history to assertain if indeed there is reason for complaint.
i feel that i am being given the runaround and being set up for a fall if im honest. surely its my right to ask for the information and then my right to complain accordingly should i want to,natwest asking me to complain without the inforation i require is surely not right.
any help or advise will be greatfully received

The consumer credit act requirements cease on repayment of the debt. So, they have no requirement to supply you what you wish. The only way to get a copy of the files they still retain on you in a relevant filing system is to pay £10 and do a data subject access request.i want my loan history to assertain if indeed there is reason for complaint.
Your loan history will not tell you if you were mis-sold or not.surely its my right to ask for the information
and it is their right to refuse.and then my right to complain accordingly should i want to
and you are free to do that any time.natwest asking me to complain without the inforation i require is surely not right.
As what you want wont tell you anything to aid your complaint you should just go straight to complaint giving your reasons. Or you can pay £10 and do a DSAR.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. thanks for the speedy response.
i think i will move forward with complaint.
i have always since leaving school worked for a large multinational engineering company, entitling me to full sickness benifit should i fall ill or injure myself leaving me unable to work.
now i remember questioning the initial ppi as this was the case. this querry was dismissed as soon as it was raised because natwest needed the security off the ppi to allow the loan to proceed. in my eyes i have a claim,
may win , but i ave nothing to lose as the premiums have already been paid so what the hell0
