I'm certain there is no way you can change the contract at this stage, by insisting that any workers belong to one particular trade organisation.

Thanks for your input. You might well be right! Nevertheless, I did insist and they did provide a snipef registered plumber.

Have you actually written a couple of clearly laid out letters of complaint to the company concerned and included clear photos of the shoddy workmanship? You don't seem to have said you have written and your posts here are all over the place (sorry). You do have to give the same company the chance to rectify the faults, but you should not have to have the same fitter back.

You do have to give the same company the chance to rectify the faults ...............I have and they have provided a snipef registered plumber (see post 9 above) who did a great job rectifying some of the faults but was pulled off the job before they were finished.

........but you should not have to have the same fitter back ........I wouldn't and they know it!
    Thanks for your reply.

  • I had the same problem and I am afraid is very frustrating but the care and skills workers supposed to have in England are very low when assessed buy the court.
Nevertheless this does not mean that you have to end up with a terrible bathroom and still pay the agreed full price.

If the second company sent you the first incapable plumber they are liable as well as the plumber himself. You can decide who pursue and your best option is the company ( they have the money and skills to fix the problem)

Make as many complaints to the company as you can asking to rectify all problem or reduce the price ( although I know this will not make you as happy as having a nice bathroom but at list does some justice. I refused to pay the remainder of the price and I never heard from them.

You could also check if you have a legal insurance with your home insurance and ask them to take up your case, send them photos and contract terms.

Adventuring in court claims can be risky because as I said the threshold to prove reasonable careskills is low for the plumbers and you could be awarded court costs against.

I would hang on on the payment until the company makes the first step

Pipework should avoid electrics. One of the pipes here was hard against the 13amp socket switch.

In the photograph below, the white pipe which is about 2' above the loft floor at one point, is un-insulated, unsupported and unclipped as well as being unbelievable.

    No clips, just insulating tape!

No clips, no support and no insulation.

The photos in this post and in the one above are posted all over the net so why not here?

I give that a few months before it leaks.

Not only nasty push fit connections but not clipped in any shape or form.

    Some more photos.

In this photo, the earth/bonding continuity has been broken with the insertion of a plastic fitting. To reinstate the continuity, an earth wire should have been used to bridge the gap.

In this photo, the gap between cistern and pan is so wide as to be unhygienic.

Kings Kitchens and Bathrooms, Inverurie – A Word of Caution

After entering into a contract for a bathroom makeover earlier this year, when proprietor himself arrived to do the job himself, I thought that my bathroom makeover would be exemplary. I was so wrong! A week later when he had finished, I discovered that the installation was so bad that I refused to have him back in the house and insisted that a SNIPEF registered plumber be called in to rectify the many, many faults. These included the failure to fit service valves, clips, pipe supports or pipe insulation, a sink that wasn’t screwed to the wall, a sink pedestal that was completely free-standing without any fixings whatsoever, out of alignment pipework for a towel warmer, a bath that took forever to empty and made loud clunking noises in the sink when it was being emptied, insulating tape used instead of clips to secure pipework, a flush-to the-wall toilet system which was not ‘flush’because the fitter installed it knowing that the wall was out of plumb, a failure to follow manufacturer’s instructions when installing a pump, so much so that the entire pump installation had to be dismantled and re-installed by another plumber, and a contravention of the Scottish Water Byelaws 2004, namely:

    · the installation of pipework which was not adequately supported or clipped

    · the installation of pipework whichwas not adequately insulated to protect against heat or frost;

    · the failure to fit isolating orservicing valves to pipe work where necessary.

I got a letter from Kings stating that as per my request, my snagging list had been passed to another plumber and I checked to see that they were SNIPEF registered. They were. The new plumber did a great job of correcting many, but not all of the faults and the situation now is that Kings bill has been settled but there is still a fair bit of workoutstanding. They haven’t appeared back in seven months and have refused to accept delivery of letters of complaint sent by recorded mail.

There were, and are, other problems which are not listed above but all have been captured on camera and some have beenshown in the posts above. It is fair to say that everyone who has seen thephotographs has been shocked at the poor workmanship. I did ask Mr King directly, if he was a fully qualified plumber and he replied that he was. Why then, would a fully trained and qualified plumber almost completely botch a bathroom makeover, ‘forget’ to fit service valves, clips and pipe supports in contravention of Scottish Water Byelaws and be unaware that the same Byelaws require that pipework must be adequately insulated to protect against heat or frost? I don’t know why Kings, for the sake of cost cutting, expediency or whatever, decided not to carry out the work in my home in a workmanlike manner or with due care and attention. What Ido know is that, as a result of my experience, I could never recommend KingsKitchens and Bathrooms and that choosing them in the first place, was the worst decision I have ever made.
