How to remove apps and put them on fewer screens on Galaxy S1?

I have 7 screens of apps. Some of them I don't want anymore. I know how to delete them, but wonder how do I condense them onto fewer pages. What happens at the moment, I delete an app and it leaves a gap there until I get another app and its put in that gap.

I use an iPhone 4S <ducks> and by pressing the app icon for a while until it starts "quivering", you can then slide them around. It's a bit awkward moving them between screen as you have to slide the icon off the screen to the left (not as easy as it sounds) but with a bit of practice it works.
I would imagine it would be similar for the Galaxy (unless someone tells me I'm talking cobblers (again))

You could try the iphone trick until someone can come in with experience of the actual phone, but on the iphone, or rather ios you can folder icons. You do that by just holding your finger on the app for a couple seconds till it shakes, then drag an app onto another one, and it'll create a folder. To add more apps to it you just drag them onto the folder.

Might be worth trying it to see if it moves, after all according to apple [strike]pretty much Samsungs are a clone of their devices/technology![/strike] ;D

I hate having multiple screens, so I just have one screen and multiple folders now >.>

Moving : To move go to Menu, edit, hold and drag to extreme left or right.

From one screen to another : After entering the edit option, keep the icon pressed so you can move it and then drag it to the extreme right/left edge and hold there for a second.. it will move to the next screen.

I got asked the same thing (or close enough) a few days back by someone else. My solution for him was to show him how to get to the "everything I've got installed on this tablet" screen (Under Android ICS, it's an icon that looks like this ":::") and point out that removing an icon from a home screen does NOT uninstall the program (any more than removing someone's name from their doorbell, or even removing the doorbell would evict them!) A "long press" on an icon that's on one of the main screens should produce a small rectangle marked "X Remove". Drag the (now draggable!) icon to the "X-Remove" rectangle, and... it's gone. Swipe to whatever screen you wanted it to be on (instead of the one it WAS on) tap the ":::" again, and give the icon you want a nice long lingering press. It'll now pop-up on the screen you selected for it, and can be polaced wherever you want it on the screen.

My friend lets his grandson use his tablet, and thought it would be a good idea to set aside a screen "just for his Grandson".
    Hope that helped.
