Start - Run - type eventvwr.msc - OK and look for errors or warnings in the application event log.

Uninstall ZoneAlarm, restart and install it again (make sure its the newest version you install)

You should not be running ZA and AVG together (unless you're talking about AVG Antispyware).
Only run ONE antivirus programme at a time.

Please ignore, Zone Alarm is a firewall and AVG an anti-virus.

Depends... ZAfree (firewall) or ZApro doesnt have AV and its safe to run AVG alongside it

i have AVG antivirus and the free ZA firewall, and the inbuilt windows one off.

i think i have sorted the ZA problem now.

AVG keeps telling me that the resident shield is off and the anti virus bit says that the component could not be determined. connection failed. i think it may be a dodgy update or something to do with ZA as it worked fine before i uninstalled ZA. i have reinstalled AVG and it was ok, until i updated AVG then it said the above messages
