Having a nightmare with wireless networking :(

Options
I bought a wireless networking bundle yesterday, it included:

A BT Voyager router/modem
An ethernet cable
A wireless USB adapter
A Wireless laptop card
2 microfilters

I connected the router to my desktop (Dell XPS) and the ethernet cable and i was able to connect to the internet right away (after keying in connection details etc) and it was all set up in about 15 mins.
'This is easy' i thought! So i then proceeded to try and connect the familys 2 laptops with the wireless adapters, and thats where my problems are!!

Ok, what seems to be happening is that on one of the laptops i installed software fine and plugged in the adapter-all fine. But in the task tray its saying that a network cable is unplugged (when it isnt) and when check the device it says its working properly, but obviously something is wrong.
I have keyed in the SSID and the network key but still nothing.
The 2nd laptop has the laptop card and that installed ok, but it doesnt seem to be picking up any connection either.

I'm very frustrated, can someone suggest anything please :(:(

stupid question but have you enabled the wireless option on the router if you only set it up via wire originally some require the wireless parts to be switched on within the config panels.

Also the network cable unplugged bit on your laptop should be fine, the wireless adaptors should show up as a different icon (either two pc screens or a single screen), not as being cable connections
