Even if you get sacked its not over. You will live, learn and become stronger from this.

Can't say much more than has already been said but take the positives out of the situation (and there are some...just look hard)

I hope you are not paying this company for BR advice! Going BR is an easy process and there is plenty of free help out there, such as CCCS CAB and Debthelp line, also the http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=136 on here is an excellent source of help and support.

Look at this as a new start!

How did you get on today, Casper?
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

You're at rock bottom so the only way is up from where you are. It sounds like your employer hasn't involved the police so from that point of view the chances are the worst you can accept from what seems to be an understanding employer is a bad reference. Your employer has no choice but to sack you because if they don't it sends a message to the other employees that this is OK.

Bankruptcy is not as bad as it used to be years ago. All being well you should be discharged within 6-12 months and you can get on with rebuilding your life.

As sniggings said, you should not be paying someone to do this for you. You can do it all yourself and when you go to court to file, fill in the form to get the court expenses dropped because of low income.

Hi Casper, something really really practical about the theft, it was obviously out of character and totally due to the amount of stress you have been under. This is not unusual and as you had worked so many years for the same company, I am going to suggest that you could have covered this loss very easily and not get caught. I am going to suggest that you speak to your doctor and perhaps get a psychological assessment, because if this was in fact a "cry fro help" rather than a malicious act then you may even manage to save your job.

Please help! I am currently £20000 in debt and on the reduced payments that I am making it will take me a further 18 years to pay these off. Working 26 hours a week was just not helping me see a light at the and of the tunnel. I've done something stupid. On four separate occasions I have taken money from my employer, totalling approx £70. I have been putting money back as I have been able but have been caught. Understandably I have had a disciplinary hearing and go back today to basically be fired. My family and colleagues main disappointment is that I didn't seek help sooner, even my manager commented that he wished I'd asked him for help. This is the first ( and last) time in twenty years of being in employment that I have EVER committed anything like this. I have accepted what I have done, am truly sorry and know that after today I need to put it behind me. I contacted a bankruptcy company, went through everything with him and I have started proceedings. I even spoke to the Samaritans on Wednesday, I just feel that confessing what I have done will make me feel better. I have prepared a statement for my employer stating my reasoning behind my actions, and fully accept that I will be fired. I'm just struggling to come to terms with things. My partner is being supportive but I just feel like I have so many people down. I don't expect sympathy because what I have done amounts to theft, I just need reassurance that my life is not over. Any comments will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Being Devil's Advocate here but I sort of wonder what would have happened if OP HAD NOT got caught?? would this carry on indefinitely? And he's done it more than once (four times). OP is very lucky police haven't been involved etc.

I worked with someone who did this once for a large firm, got caught, fired and police, they worked for the accounts dept and always would say before this *they were scr*wing the company*.

The sort of thing which is worrying is would OP be tempted to do this again?

And before anyone jumps on me - yes, I've had serious debt problems too but not resorted to stealing from employers.

I also wonder (on the back of this) - 26 hours a week to work isn't that much. surely OP could have got a 2nd job etc?

sorry a lot of this is thinking out loud.

You don't know what OP's circumstances are. There could be childcare issues, taking care of parents, health issues etc etc. Just because someone works part-time doesn't necessarily mean they have lots of free time to fill with more work. Do you think they would be driven to theft if they could have simply worked some more paid hours?
  • If you don't own your own home then bankruptcy could be the best solution for you. It is possible to come back from bankruptcy and not working for over a year, even having no good references because of what you did.

It's definitely not easy but I have come back from that (and more) and am now in a very well paid job doing something I like. So there is hope.

*I had to do some things I am not proud of in order to secure employment but that can be seen from my earlier posts*
