Drive any car - swift insurance.

Does anyone know if on a Swift motor policy, to drive another car 3rd party only, does that car need to be insured.
The policy documentation does not seem to suggest it does, and the lady on the phone said that if it was a one off trip (bringing home a car that I have just bought) that it does not need to already be covered by someone elses policy, but just wanted to treble check, and draw on the knowledge of the forum.
Cheers :beer:

I'd go with what the advisor said, if you can get it in writing or be directed to the appropriate part of the policy.
However, why would you want to do that? Surely it'll be uninsured the second you get out?0 -
Check carefully, most, if not all, third party cover extensions only cover a vehicle not owned by the policy holder. So if you have bought, and now own the vehicle, it may not be valid.0

So you are covered to drive someone else's uninsured car if it is 'just a one-off trip', but not for regular usage???
How does that work?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

I might ring them up again, so that I get a different advisor to check again. I asked and all their calls are recorded, so at least they will have a record of it. I could not have been plainer on the phone, and asked the same question at least twice to confirm the answer.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

You need to check the wording on your policy.
If you have a swiftcover policy, then you can read your policy on line.
Do not rely on any verbal answer if you speak to them. If they give you the answer you want, ask them to confirm it in writing.0 -
If the car dosn't show up on the MIB data base, you are likely to get pulled by the police so make sure your are covered! I bought a car for my son recently which had no insurance but I have DOC on my policy. But when I checked, the car needed to be related to an insurance policy under the new continuous insurance and tax rules so I took out a temp 24 hour policy to cover the car through tempcover.comPLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. I have an Axa policy, which is more or less the same as Swiftcover.
I can temporarily add a vehicle, and I suggest you look for that on yours.
The normal cover only includes driving other cars not owned by you, with the owner's permission, which are otherwise insured but not with you as named driver. And these clauses are intended only for very temporary and unforeseen use.0 -

When I was with Swift the car you drive using your other vehicle cover needed to be insured in its own right AND MUST NOT BE A VEHICLE YOU OWN. If you've bought it, you'll own it so not covered as it doesn't belong to a third party.
There is no exemption for "one offs" with such a requirement because the whole idea of covering for other vehicles is that it is for "one off" situations, not regular driving of another vehicle.0 -
The current Swiftcover policy says: any car driven by you, with the owner’s express consent, within the UK as long as:
• that car does not belong to you;
• the car is insured by the car owner and you are entitled by this certificate to drive such a car;
• the car is not hired to you under a hire purchase agreement;
So no, they won't cover this. You would probably be ok if stopped if your certificate doesn't mention this condition (and you had it with you) because recent case law says that, if you present a "relevent" certificate when stopped the police have to take it on face value of what the certificate says and have no grounds to make enquiries beyond the certificate wording. But that is NOT the same as actually being covered in an accident!
Day cover is usually between about £15 and £35 so better to take out a day policy and know you have full cover.0
