Anyone heard of the Green Deal??
Hi. Has anybody heard of the new Green Deal that is supposedly coming into effect next year? We had a plumber look at our very old boiler & he advised us to try and hang on till next year when the government will have a grant in place for replacement to an energy A rated one, has anyone else heard of it? Thanks in advance

There are 2 government initiatives that go hand in hand ECO and Green Deal:
ECO - this is aimed at the poorest people (beneifits/income based) and is design to improve their energy efficiently at no cost.
Green Deal - this is open to anyone to improve their energy efficiently and it is based on the 'golden rule'. The golden rule is that the monthly repayments for the measure is equal to or less than the savings on your energy. Basically it is a loan that is repaid via your electricity bill and remains with the property when people move. If the golden rule is not quite met the consumer can opt to pay part up front so they can put the majority of cost on the GD.
Some customers may be able to get measures that are part covered by both of the above.

Green Deal is basically it is a loan towards home energy improvements etc that is repaid via the properties gas/electricity bills.
The loan is not against the householder but is against the property and remains with the property if the homeowner moves.
Now house purchasers are going to have to factor in not just the headline sale price but also any green deal loans against the property. It's going to cause no end of problems to an already compressed housing market.
There needs to be more of a media backlash against this i'll thoughtout policy.
