I'm no mechanic, so I dont really know what is going on under the bonnet

the only thing that might be an issue is emissions... I have an intermittent emissions worskhop messages that comes up now and again.

based on the car make forum, the oxygen sensor is starting to show age and I need to buy a new sensor for bloody £120.

if i fail an mot, and then take it to a council run mot, can i complain to the mot body about the original mot tester who failed me to get me to get unnecessary work done?

Whats with your attitude then? You know nothing about cars but have diagnosed a duff sensor that will cost you £120 and yet you want to entrap some poor bloke just doing his job so you can stitch him up with VOSA for failing you on a sensor you know is faulty and may genuinely fail your car?

Seriously what is wrong with you? You admit you know its possibly going to fail the car but you want to pin the blame on someone else! Thats just shameful. Absolutely shocking. Well done londonTiger you've just proven how low people in the United Kingdom will stoop. I really am ashamed to be british when I read the antics of people like you.

If you're that concerned why do you want to spend out on two MOTs? - Why not just go to a council run MOT centre straight away? Let me let you into a little tip here.. the council run MOT centres are often STRICTER on emissions than private MOT test centres (the ones who don't do repairs and only do MOTs). I've been there and done that, got failed by a council test centre and passed by a private test-only centre 25 minutes later.

One final point, MOT testers don't just decide to fail your car on emissions, they use special calibrated equipment that decides for them. It will print the emissions test results on a piece of paper along with the word pass or fail on it. Therefore you've not got a leg to stand on with a complaint to VOSA as even they will tell you that there can be variable tolerances in the calibration from one machine to another. Trust me I rang vosa about the council test station that failed me after a private one passed me.

Seriously Tiger, you really need to reconsider how you hold people accountable for your problems.

I keep my car in good condition, however I'm no mechanic, so I dont really know what is going on under the bonnet and under the car. could be punctured exhaust and I would be none the wiser. But it should be fine.

My mot is coming up, checked all the usual and should be fine. the only thing that might be an issue is emissions, the car runs fine, exhaust is cleary and mpg is decent so not running rich, but I have an intermittent emissions worskhop messages that comes up now and again.

based on the car make forum, the oxygen sensor is starting to show age and I need to buy a new sensor for bloody £120.

I am confident that it should still pass MOT though, im thinking of going somehwehre cheap that will do the mot for 30 quid. however im concerned that the might just try and find faults and use the emissions workshop message to get me to buy a new exhaust and all the rest of it.

if i fail an mot, and then take it to a council run mot, can i complain to the mot body about the original mot tester who failed me to get me to get unnecessary work done? heard about a few people getting quoted thousands of pounds of work to pass mot and then just driving to a council mot centre and passing with no advisories what so ever.
its the tester discretion. something like a ball joint with a little play I would put on advisory another could fail it and another could pass it.

if you complain to vosa and they do another mot and fail your car they will charge you full fee and on top of that you will need to pay for repairs

why dont you just take your car to a council run mot station in the first place? seems like you want to go to war

If you know you have a fault and a pre-cat O2 sensor can seriously increase your fuel consumption, change it and you have no problem. Get one from a good source as a £10 ebay one will just need changing again soon.

I note on another thread you are thinking of changing your cambelt etc, is that a good idea?
  • have i read this right.

you want to take you car to a MOT test center because of the £30 offer, you know you have a lambda issue, (witch controls fuel and emisions) if it fails the MOT you wish to take it to second council run MOT center and if it scrapes by youll complaint to vosa for unfair practices of the first center?

    what will you gain?

most lambda's can be bought universal these days for £30.00 for 2 3 4 wire ones, aslong as the colours match its saving you cash than buying some expensive branded one all that required is you chop the harness connector off the old sensor and then wire up to the new one and tape and heat shrink around the joints.

some lamda cant read tidy because of carbon build up around the node. undo lamda spray with carb cleaner wipe node with clean cloth and reinstall and see how it goes.
