Well I had that same determination...but needs must. You do get fed up of struggling and being up to your neck on painkillers just to get 100 yards down the road, as I'm sure many of us on here know only too well:(

I know hon. But I can understand her determination. She's only 21. It's took me a while to encourage her to use the ones in the supermarket, she will go now and wear a hoody so no one sees her. She's got some embarrassment for being disabled. After persuading her, one of my son's friend's laughed at her, I could have wrapped her crutches round his neck!!!

She's off to be fitted for new braces next week, hopefully they will make a difference and keep her on her feet a wee while longer. It's all happened very fast, so I think that has a lot to do with her denial too, that and her age.

Understandable at her age. Can't believe the cheek of the little horror that laughed at her.

Your son needs to reconsider who he wants to be friends with!

Indeed. We've had words :) He apologised and all was good. TBH I think it was just shock as he hadn't seen her for a while and didn't realise, he thought she was taking the mick. What a difference a year makes eh?

Well she's got a brilliant mum.

    Was she in an accident?

    Yes and no.

Some little oink threw a firework in her block of flats last halloween. She turned to run and managed to get a spiral fracture of the fibula. Borderline for surgery. 5.5 months in cast. But because of this her HMS/EDS has gone into overdrive and rapid deterioration.

ATM she's got 2 knees gone, 2 ankles that slip, one wrist dislocated, 1 slips, all her fingers dislocate, and one shoulder dislocating/subluxing constantly.

We're back at the hospital next week to try and get her better braces. It's velcro holding her together most of the time and wears braces on knees and wrists. And only high top trainers for her feet with built up insoles.

She even managed to dislocate her thumb pushing the button to make the scooter go forward, now try to ask for one with a pull mechanism :rotfl: like a bike brake as opposed to it going in the other direction. I can laugh at that one because her thumb doesn't hurt. :rotfl:

I've got the same condition but don't dislocate as often, my knees go out a bit but go straight back in most of the time, thankfully!!!

So we're approaching the year mark from when she got rapidly worse, it's been a looooooooong year.

FYI I claimed DLA for her, after a lot of persuading. Why shouldn't she claim it as she's disabled? Just because she's in denial it doesn't stop me seeing how disabled she is.

Sounds like she's had a really tough time mazza, and she's fully entitled to claim DLA if she qualifies for it.

Just ignore comments like that from stroodes

She has hon, but we're still hopeful... Gotta be haven't you? And yes, like you she's up to her neck in painkillers every day.

Comments like that dont' bother me, although snide, it's becoming common place to attack people on benefits. Maybe it makes them feel big? I dunno, but as long as he feels good about himself...

We try to inject humour into things. And got her this T shirt for seeing her consultant and physio :D So picture this wearing all her braces :)
