No chance, you could try the monthly insurance companies but might not be cheap.

Nope - you'll need to use a specialist insurance co like http://insure4aday.co.uk

Right, looked at them and the cheapest is £27 per day...
My car's MOT expires on the 20th November this year and I want to sell the car asap. Should I get the MOT done NOW while I still have some time left on my insurance so I can sell it?

Yes, I would. If you get it done in a couple of days time it will run to 20/11/2013 (assuming it passes).

Fresh MOT will help it sell. Always gets people wondering why someone is selling a car with only a few weeks of MOT left.

Are you not getting another car? Find a company that are cheap for the old car and the new car and have low admin fees.
My insurer charge £15 admin fee. Seems fair compared to some that charge £50 to £75.

  • Paying monthly, with 99% of insurers, is just a convenience for you and nice interest payments for them. You have still bought an annual contract and there are fees to be paid to allow you to exit the contract early.

If you are getting a new car then you can look at just doing a change of vehicle with the current insurer but if you are buying through a broker be aware you are locked to the current insurer and so the new price may be very different to what the broker advertises they can get from another insurer on their panel

We are leaving the country so won't be getting a new car. Well I have booked the MOT for 2 days time which leaves us about 2 and a bit weeks to sell the car if it passes. I damn well hope it passes!

Does anyone know if family garages or a place like Halfords pass you easier or not?

Council run MOT centres seem to be favoured on MSE as they don't do 'public' repairs and therefore have no vested interest in failing. Search MOT on MSE.

Thanks a lot! Have done that but the nearest council MOT test centre seems to be in Harrogate - can't believe there's not one in York!?
