Has anyone ever heard of The Utility Warehouse? I'm fed up of continually switching Gas and Electric suppliers and someone has told me that these will always be cheaper than British Gas and comparable with the Big 6 suppliers. Any advice - HELP ???!!

YES, we have heard of them.
They have a fairly bad reputation especially for making false claims.
What you have been told is not true but don't take my word for it search these boards and you will find plenty of compelling reading.
If you want one good company to stick with then I would recommend checking out Ebico.
They are a non-profit making organsation guided by christian principles.
At the moment they may look more expensive.
That's because they change their prices annually (usually september) whereas other companies go up and down more frequently.
But again don't take my word for it.
Search the boards for Ebico and see what other have to say.
Many people seem to be quite happy and see them as a good company to be with long term (albeit more expensive at present).0 -
There are some fairly pro and anti utility warehouse camps on this board, there is a dedicated thread on them so it may be worth reading through it and making up your own mind:

I think it fair to point out a Large Majority of the of the pro camp, work for them (distributors), and therefore have a vested interest in the company.:D0 -
Utility Warehouse is neither good or bad, but as it has many who make a portion of their living recommending it - they tend to be overly zealous.
A couple of years ago I lobbied very strongly for the comparison services to include UW (or Telecom Plus as its also known) in their comparisons. Most (including energyhelpline) now do. So do a comparison, if UW is cheapest energy provider for you - great - if not - why bother?

Thanks for these replies - now time to do the research and reading myself and make the decision.0

People on this site are very switched on to price and generally readily admit to being "rate tarts." I get a good overall deal by taking electricity, gas, broadband & phone, mobile and freephone number from UWDC, so am happy to stick with them. Many (me too) believe that there should be no monthly membership fee of £1.76. So, do not forget to take this into account when doing your sums.

Nigel.
As N-Power are involved, and also have a vested interest in T-Plus can you tell us if the cuts will be across the board or selective ? In view of this see:

As well as shopping around for your Energy as MSE suggests, its also worth doing the same for your other products as T-Plus are not the cheapest on the block.0 -

I am a Distributor with them but try to give unbiased advice. Their prices will be coming down in the near future and as the energy is supplied by npower, should be competetive again. I would advise waiting a couple of weeks and checking their prices to see what is the best deal for you. The comparison sites will give a good indication of prices but tend not to show companies who do not give them a cut for transferring in a good light.

I also remember a certain article stating that the Npower price cuts was NOT a price cut...care to comment?Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.0 -
