Governement Legal Service?

We get so many bogus calls its nauseating, but I may have reacted wrongly to this one.

Got some guy calling today from the Government Legal Service sounded pretty dodgy requesting information about somebody at our address who had an accident that was the fault of the 3rd party in the last 3 years (which there has been) he also had the correct surname of that person.

He first wanted verification information that the above was the case, which I would not give him until he explained why he was calling. He said that there maybe additional compensation due because the accident wasn't the fault of the person living at the household, explaining they were a semi-government organisation.

He gave his name as John Connor, I said what like in the "Terminator"? He said no thats my name and I asked him to spell it, whatever the case I'm pretty sure John Connor isn't a popular name in Asia.

I told him before I give any information out I want to check out who he is, what his company is, because its not a government agency I've heard of, he said it's a semi-government agency and he gave me a number which as I can see it now is too short, although this may have been a mistake.

There is a gls.gov.uk website

Don't know if its the same thing.

Is this a legitimate call or is there something bogus in it?

  • Its an accident management company fishing for leads of people in accidents which they then sell to no win no fee solicitors

I get a few texts a week saying I'm owed £3,500 in compensation for my "recent accident" but havent been in any accidents unless you count be dropping my laptop on my own foot recently

Contact the real GLS and advise them of the call. If they call back again, try to get a number for them, so you can pass that information on.

If you are certain about the claimed name of the company then you could report them to GLS.

Personally my guess would be that you in part miss heard them because they tend to ramble off their intro trying to get to the "you're owned money" bit before the person hangs up. Like the debt management companies they claim to be acting on behalf of this that or the other government/ legislation etc and if you do poke and prod that area most will up play the whole thing rather than just admit they are a profit making company that should be regulated by the OFT or other agency
