Getting a cash-back credit card.

After reading about cash-back credit cards I applied for a Capital One Aspire World Mastercard. However I was refused.
My circumstances are as follows.
My wife and I have a a household income of £24000 p.a. in the form of four pensions. We own our house. We have a Capital One Credit Card already with a zero balance. We don't owe anybody anything. I have never been refused credit,
Can anyone with more exprerience of these matters offer any view on why we have been refused? Would it have any affect if I contacted Capital One and said I intended to cancel the existing card?

Don't quote me on this but pretty sure you already having a cap1 card could be the problem and many have been in the same boat as you who closed their exiting cap1 down first before applying for their decent card.
  • You should have cancelled one and applied for t'other at same time. Two cards in same name is a no no for many companies. Perhaps reapply in the other name.
  • Perhaps the easiest thing would be to apply for the next one on the recommended list, Amex Platinum. I've checked out the lists of who does, and does not accept it; and the estimated payout looks very similar to the Cap1 card.
